Maxxis Ignitor Tire

Maxxis Ignitor Tire

Designed for professional racers, the Ignitor has already claimed several World Cup victories. Well-spaced tread pattern provides low rolling resistance on the straights, ramped pentagon knobs at the outside edge provide excellent traction in the corners and in soil.

A good choice for riders with an eye on weight who need a bit more grip than some popular minimally-treaded hardpack tires provide. Both sizes have folding beads for weight savings and lightweight single-ply casings. The tread rolls well and grips on hardpack, medium soil, and loose-over-hardpack terrain.

Features:

  • Tire Type: Clincher
  • Tire Bead: Folding
  • ETRTO: 26X2.35 ( 52-559 ), 29X2.10 ( 52/52-622 )
  • TPI: 60
  • PSI: 35 - 65
  • Weight: 690-695g

fast tire
I bought this tire on the recommendation of several friends and am running it on the rear on a FS with a Hutchinson Cougar 2.35 on the front. This Maxxis makes the bike noticeable faster vs. the previous rear Cougar and it still corners very well with excellent traction.

I paid the LBS to do a tubeless conversion. They said the Hutchinson front popped right in but the Maxxis gave them fits and then leaked down a couple times before eventually sealing after I picked up the bike and took it on a trail ride.

I Love These Tires
I have only used these tires on my local trails in Southern Ca, they are fast rolling, grip great on hard pack and loose conditions, never wash out, they also last forever. my only problem with them is they do not make a 27.5 size yet.

Killer traction! But won't last.
I used the Ignitor on my front wheel. I ride the Los Angeles area foothills and Big Bear Lake's mountains. This tire was phenomenal when it came to traction! Unfortunately, my love for this tire was about the same length as most of my college romances. A couple of months and about 500 miles into the relationship, the side wall got cut while on a ride. It rendered the tire completely useless. If Maxxis were to reinforce the sidewalls with kevlar, I'd never stray. So until then, I'll have to keep looking for my dream tire.

This tire is built...
This tire is built for racing! If you are looking for wearability, look else where. The grip allows me to run a higher pressure (5o to 55 PSI) without loosing too much bite. In other words, you can have grip and low rolling resistance.

Great tire
This is a great tire that I'm running on the rear. It was hard to get to seat tubeless but once it held it has been a rock star! My riding buddy has been tellong me this for over a year now amd I'm glad i finally took his advice.

Best tire I've used
I have used the Specialized Captain, the Panaracer Rampage, and the Ignitor and it is my favorite. I use it as a front tire around central texas, and something with less tread and less rolling resistance on the back of my racing wheels. For my heavier wheels on technical trails I use the Ignitor on the rear and the very thick and heavy Rampage on the front, but will likely switch to an Ignitor on the front as well. I use the non-UST version tubeless on my 29er and it doesn't burp and seals up easier than my other tires.

Maxxis, the best
I use maxxis tire for about one year and a half, in my all mountain rides. I like big tires.
Excellent traction, deep knobs, fast rolling, very good perfomance in wet or dry conditions (I've used in mud roads).
No cons by the moment.
