Shimano Deore M592 SGS Shadow Derailleur

The versatile Deore rear derailleur is now available in a Shadow version! Also found on XTR and XT, Shadow technology uses a lower profile, making snags on rocks, branches or anything else that might jump out less of a worry.  Other innovations that found on Deore include Direct Cable Routing and single tension construction.  With Deore you can enjoy most of the performance found on XTR at a fraction of the cost.
  • Low Profile Shadow rear derailleur
  • Top normal design (traditionally sprung)
  • Low profile single tension construction
  • Crisp shifting feel
  • Approximate weight 286 grams
  • Works with Shimano 9 speed shifter or SRAM Attack shifters

When onsale, this is...
When onsale, this is an excellent item. This shifts are crisp, and a great upgrade from the Deore (std), LX and older XT derailleurs I've had. Chainslap is minimized and the return sprint is strong. The differences in this over the SLX are minimal. However, for a few dollars more, it might be worth SLX. IF this were a bit cheaper or onsale, I would then get this over SLX.

Good Value
Much cheaper than the XTR that came originally with the bike but shifts just as well. It may weigh a few ounces more but seems to perform just as well as the much more expensive XTR.

Wonderful derailleur at a bargain price
I installed this as a replacement for an old Shimano that was damaged beyond repair. It works like a charm on my 7 speed cassette and 1998 Shimano shifter.

So far so good
I upgraded my stock alivio to this and noticed an immediate difference in performance. I kept the stock shifters and they work fine so far in. I only have 25 miles on it but did not need to adjust during my off road ride with hills bumps and roots the whole time. Much smoother and confidence inspiring. The shadow design tucks in nicely. I had to cut existing cable to install but it was easy enough. Had to adjust H L screws for my 9 speed. Hopefully it will last awhile.

Sweet upgrade, works great with 36 tooth cassette
This is the best choice for 8 or 9 speed because it can handle 36 tooth rear cassette . The "Shadow Design" means it has a low side profile so it's tucked under chain stay and out of harms way. I bought this to replace an older designed
XT that could not handle cassette over 32 tooth . Has good chain retention spring
and much better cable routing .

Capable derailleur
Purchased to allow an upgrade to a 12-36t cassette on my touring bike. Easy to install and adjust. Works as advertised and reaches the big cog easily. It's a little "transformer looking" which prompted the "ugly" Con, but it works well; as most Shimano items do.

PROS: Value, 36t Capable, Lightweight, Precise Shifting

CONS: Ugly

BEST USES: Mountain Biking, Touring Bike

great product for the price
Replacement & upgrade for broken derailleur. Works smooth and seems reliable. Like the raised shadow design. Great price for an item that gets damaged easily. As noted in other reviews, put your money into the shifter it is more important than the derailleur. And this fits the quality vs price match point.
