I've prepared a list of Ergon FAQ for anyone considering trying them out.

    Q: Do they look cool?
    A: No

Q: Is the package they come in nice?
A: Too nice. It's a pain to free the grips from
the packaging. You must destroy the packaging to get the grips out which could make returns troublesome.

    Q: Are they expensive?
A: Yes, but not much more expensive than my usual ODI Lock-Ons

    Q: Do they mount easily?
A: Yes. A 4mm hex key is all you need. 4mm is nice because you can get plenty of leverage without stripping the hex interface out or breaking your allen key. But 4mm is risky because you could easily strip out whatever that bolt is threading into with all the leverage you have.

Q: Does the fact that they only lock on the handlebar on one side of the grip concern me?
A: Yes, I wish they had lock on bolts on both sides of the grip.

Q: Do they feel good when grabbed for the first time?
A: They feel awesome. I choose to ride with unpadded gloves because they suckers inherently pad your palms.

Q: Do they feel good whilst riding?
A: Yes. They feel great! You don't even have to wrap your fingers around the bar to ride along. Just resting your plams on the ergo-wings is enough to get by if you're not in the rough.

Q: Are they good for broken pinkies?
A: Yes, just what the doctor ordered. Relatively no pain on today's ride.

Q: Are they good for climbing?
A: Not as good as fresh legs. But yes, they are fine for climbing.

Q: Are they good for extra credit log bashing?
    A: They seemed fine.

Q: Do they feel safe when you're flying down a stutter bumpy big ring descent?
A: Not particularly. They are a little flexy when you're roosting about. But on the other hand, some people would call this damping and that's good:-)

Q: Did they come loose or spin while riding?
A: Not yet. They held fast. Waiting to see how they hold when soaked with rain or creek water. How about crahes?

    Q: Do I like them?
A: I am surprised to say that I really like them. It's ironic that I needed a broken pinky to motivate me into buying these grips.

Q: Will these be the go-to grips for every future endurance race?
A: Yes, I believe so. They feel like they would combat fatigue very well.

I picked these up as I have had some issues with my wrists and wanted to provide some better support on longer rides. I typically wear a L/XL glove so I figured a large grip would be appropriate but the supporting portion (flange? fin?) that protrudes backwards ended up coming a little too far in and I found that it would dig into the thumb area on my palm and cause discomfort. I also felt that I couldn't get a solid grip due to the interference with that area. I ended up getting some rogues to replace the slightly less padded ruffians I had been using and I've been pretty happy with those for providing a slightly larger grip for my large hands.

In any case, these may work for a lot of people but try to grab some at a store and see if you will have issues with the grips digging into your palm near the thumb.

I had been using traditional cylindar grips for 10+ years of recreational trail riding until switching to these grips just recently. The Ergons are a remarkable improvment in comfort. The ergonomic design really does help reduce hand cramping after long hours of XC riding.

I been long time use of ODI grips for over decade. Friend of my been using ERGON grips for few years but back then there were no grip shift support. Finally came out so changed out. I use 1x9 setup so left side short without a grips shifter so I had to cut some old SRAM grips to make it up for it. Otherwise I love it. I thought I might feel funny and may not like but fits well and I have no complains

Comments about Ergon GP1 Performance Comfort Grips:

I have used Ergon grips for years, and have them on all 4 of my bikes. With these on the market for so long, it is inconcievable to me why anyone would continue using the traditional round handlebar grips. I mean, those things at the end of our arms are HANDS, not pipe-wrenches, so shouldn't our grips be shaped accordingly? I used to have trouble with my hands and fingers getting fatiqued and numb on long rides, but the shape of the Ergon spreads the load over a larger area, and also to more naturally padded parts of your hand.
I will say however that fine-tuning of the angle is important. Unlike regular grips, you will find that there is defintely a right position of the grip (for YOU) and many not-quite-rights. I suggest installing them firmly but not tight, so that you can still rotate them on the bar with a little force. Pick an angle, ride for a bit, then twist a forward or back until you find the sweet spot, then lock 'em down. After a few rides, you'll wonder why you didn't make the switch years ago.
