Shimano PD-M520 SPD Pedals

An incredible value in an offroad clipless pedal from Shimano! The M520 pedal features adjustable in/out release tension and includes a set of SH51 SPD cleats with 4 degrees of float. While they only weigh slightly more than the higher-end XT and XTR pedals from Shimano, they boast all of the same features and the same high-grade performance at a fraction of the price. These pedals will serve you well and wont break the bank. Dual sided mechanism lets you easily clip in with a simple step, without looking down at your shoes.

Compatible with shoes drilled with SPD compatible (2 bolt) drilling, but can be used with 3-bolt (Road style) shoes with the use of cleat adaptors.

Weight: 370 grams (weight does not include cleats)
Float: 4 degrees
Material: Aluminum, Chromoly Spindle, 9/16"

Replaced my m737's
I replaced my shimano m737's that I got for free at a bike show back in the early 90's at Pheasant Run Resort in Illinois . So I figured if I get half the life I did out of the 737's I would be doing good. So far I have about 150 miles on them and they seem to be working fine. I didn't mark the light or heavy box because they r about in the middle. Definitely lighter then my m737's and a little more aerodynamic. Fit is nice and snug actually had to get use to them after a few adjustments because my other pedals were clapped out. For the money I don't think u can beat this pedal. I give my old 737's a squirt of mobile one every once in a while and I'll do the same on these. My 737's r now on a old cyclocross bike, so like I said earlier if I get half the life out of them I'm doing

Solid entry level pedal
I put these on my fixed-gear, which has 1,300 miles on it (since November '12), so the mileage on the pedals is less than that.

They were my first pair of clipless pedals, so I didn't want to break the bank. I've been 100% happy with them. They're solid, they clip in reliably every time (and you can hear/feel it, so you know you're in), and I haven't adjusted the settings because the defaults worked pretty well for me.

They've taken a fair bit of abuse without any issues (there's a few dings and paint chips, but functionally they are still 100%).

I haven't taken them off-road yet, but I would be pretty confident doing so: my road riding has encountered a fair bit of mud/grime/ice, none of which interferes with the pedal operation.

The only negative I can think of is weight. At 370g (w/o cleats), they're a little heavy, but you get what you pay for. If weight is an issue, then go with a lighter, more pricey option.

Side note: I have size 12 feet, and I've been using these with Chrome Truk SPD shoes, which aren't lightweight by any stretch of the imagination. I also will sometimes go out for a quick spin wearing street shoes, and the pedals are plenty comfortable/grippy even without cleats.

All in all, these are a good buy if you're considering making the jump to clipless pedals.

I need something cheap to get me into clipless so i bought these. So far they're great. I ride technical, all mountain, and xc and so far they work great for all them. I've put through just about everything from mud to smashing rocks and they still work great. My only complaint is they're a little heavy but im not much of weight weanie so it doesnt really bother me.

Awesome value
I tired clipless years ago and hated it. These pedals are so much easier to use then the old ones I have. Glad I made the switch, I have had a few falls at first but doing some figure 8's got me feeling at home with them in less then two weeks. And on the plus side your feet stay planted allowing you to focus on the task at hand, Also makes bike control much easier.

Is this a pair?
A shopper on Dec 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: These are sold as a pair. Great pedals; highly recommend!
Is this pedal can be used on MTB?
A shopper on Dec 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes. This pedal will likely replace a pair of cheap, stock plastic pedals that typically come standard on any mountain bike. These pedals come with the SPD cleats which are compatible with bike shoes that you may have already purchased. I use this pedal exclusively on several bikes so I can easily swap between bikes using the same shoes.
