I picked this kit up to put on a brand new set of carbon wheels which came with DT Swiss 240S hubs. I'd noticed on my old wheel hub driver (Stan's Flow EX) that the driver body was a bit chewed up after only a half year of use, which I attribute to their lousy engagement and my tendency to stomp on the pedals when I want to accelerate. So, I figured that I should try and get better engagement on my fancy new wheels.

I never bothered trying the stock 18T ratchets, just installed the new ones immediately. It's super easy, especially on new wheels that aren't mounted yet. Engagement is noticeably better than my Flows, but could be a tad better. I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet they are compared to the pawl drive of the Flows. The molykote grease is just a small tub, but it doesn't take much to install, and I'd guess it will last me a year or two.

My main complaints are how expensive this is considering it's just a couple of machined ratchets, and that it's not stock on DT 240 hubs to begin with.

Comments about DT Swiss Star Ratchet Upgrade:

I went from a 3° engagement I9 hub to a 20° engagement DT Swiss 240. I found it hard to get used to not having instant power to the pedals when I wanted it. I noticed the upgrade instantly. These Ratchets are expensive but worth it for me. They should however come standard with the hubs for the price of the DT Swiss 240 hubs

Comments about DT Swiss Star Ratchet Upgrade:

I made this upgrade to my road bike. It may not be a very cost-effective upgrade, but the loud sound of the 18-tooth ratchet from my back wheel used to annoy me on long rides. The sound is now more pleasant and far more quiet, on my particular wheel (Syncros RP1.5).
The entire riding experience is smoother - with quicker engagement, smoother shifting and quieter free-wheeling.
The kit includes the two 36-tooth ratchets, a 20-g container of DT Swiss 'Special Grease' and two replacement springs.

Comments about DT Swiss Star Ratchet Upgrade:

I have been using King hubs for over 15 years and also have a couple of sets of I9s and am a big believer in rapid engagement. Once you get use to a high POE number you really notice it if you ride a bike with 24 or less POE.
The DT Swiss hubs are nice but the standard stars leave way too much of a dead zone when you are on/off pedaling and will make you nuts when you try to ratchet on technical features. This upgrade takes DT Swiss hubs from nice to really, really good hubs.

Comments about DT Swiss Star Ratchet Upgrade:

This was very easy to install and reduces the angular contacts points from 20° to 10° while pedaling. This is a nice upgrade and should be standard in my opinion. The differnece isn't huge but noticeable particularly when crawling at a slow technical pedaling pace. I did not find it to be much louder than stock. I used some Redline shockproof heavy gear oil I had for lubrication and it works well.

Comments about DT Swiss Star Ratchet Upgrade:

Upgrading my 240s hub makes the shifting smoother and the free-wheeling quieter. Hopefully having double the engagements will also mean that the machined piece between the star ratchet and the hub doesn't wear out as fast since it won't be clunking into gear as hard when shifting up. (Not sure how much that will cost yet)

I Love my DT Hubs. Now that I've upgraded to the 36 star ratchet system from the 18, I notice almost no dead spots when I pedal. It was quick and easy to install. Also they sound much cooler, not that anyone but myself will notice. I can't say anything about durability. I only have about 6 rides on this upgrade.
