Jamis Dakar XCT Pro Mountain Bike 2012

Jamis Bicycles has a long history of innovating revolutionary bikes. This dates all the way back to 1979, when Jamis introduced the Earth Cruiser. The Earth Cruiser helped to spark the beach cruiser revolution which has been a part of beach-city culture ever since. This revolution hasn’t stopped, Jamis has merely shifted focus to other forms of two wheeled machines. Today Jamis develops and produces top-of-the-line road and mountain bikes. Leveraging over 30 years of experience, Jamis is able to craft race driven performance, as well as high quality trickle down products for the average rider. Jamis has a goal to build the perfect bike, which might be an impossible goal, however to Jamis, it’s the only one worth pursuing.

The Jamis Dakar XCT Pro is a marvelous piece of construction. The Dyad Ultra lay-up of M30 and T700 high and mid-modulus carbon fibers features a tapered head tube for steering precision. In the rear, the 130mm travel mp4 Trail system offers a progressive leverage rate allowing the rear shock to be tuned more linearly and pumped to lower pressures for a smoother, more comfortable ride. At the heart of the frame, the Dakar XCT Pro is equipped with a Rock Shox Monarch RT3 High Volume shock with 10mm hardware, turning rough trails into tire-gripping velvet. Up front, the Rock Shox Revelation RL fork features a dual air spring with Motion Control dampening, external rebound dampening & low-speed-to-lock adjust with 140mm of travel. Jagged rocks, roots, stumps, and streams will no longer be pain inflicting obstacles, but merely bumps on the trail!

What would a performance constructed frame be without performance driven components? Jamis had this in mind when they assembled the component suit for the Dakar XCT Pro. The SRAM X9 rear derailleur offers exact actuation for precise and dependable shifting. A SRAM X7 front derailleur is used to keep the price to a minimum, while providing a reliable, silky smooth glide across the front chainrings. Jamis stayed with SRAM X9 where is counts, as it is geared with X9 10-speed trigger shifters with a Matchmaker clamp. Driving this train is the strong yet light 39/26 SRAM S1400 crankset and the PressFit 30 BB system, working in sync to deliver high performance strength and power transfer, enabling you to quickly turn on the burners when the competition heats up.

Ritchey Pro is an industry leader in bicycle cockpit components, which is why you couldn’t expect Jamis to use anything else for the Dakar XCT Pro cockpit. The Dakar XCT Pro cockpit is fabricated of Ritchey Pro Rizer 31.8mm bar, Ritchey Pro 4-Axis stem, and Ritchey Pro seatpost which offer pro caliber features at a real-world rider price. American Classic All Mountain Disc wheels will be the wind beneath your wings that keep you rolling for miles. The American Classic All Mountain wheels aren’t going to stop on their own which is why the Avid Elixir 3 hydraulic disc brakes are there to stop you after you’ve done enough damage for the day.

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Dakar XCT Pro Mountain Bike 2012:

The components on the bike are good but that's where the positives end. I certainly ride the bike but it's never been abused. Despite that I'm on my third front triangle, third chainstay and waiting for a warranty resoution on my second seat stay (the bike is currently unrideable). The chainstays and front triangle all suffer from poor engineering and weak construction resulting in multiple failures of the bonds between the carbon and aluminum pivot bushings and developmnet of cracks in the frame. The seat stay is even worse and has now suffered catastrophic failure of the carbon tubing on the drive side twice, thankfully not resulting in injury. All that said, Jenson has been quite responsive with warranty help of which I've required a lot.

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Dakar XCT Pro Mountain Bike 2012:

This bike is not for serious riders or people looking to push hard on trails. It might be for someone who has to commute on a bumpy dirt road or someone who wants some squish for their casual beach cruises. It's quite flimsy and it just can't handle aggressive riding. The pivot linkages are especially weak and overall it's a pretty feeble construction.

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Dakar XCT Pro Mountain Bike 2012:

I don't understand the comments from the previous reviewer. This is one of a fleet of carbon bikes that we have in our family. We are all competitive cyclists, mostly in cross-country. We all want to ride this bike! Even though it is designed more for trail and all-mountain, the set-up we have is so light and it pedals so efficiently, that it is really a great XC bike too. I am pushing 200 lbs and we have never had a problem with this or any other Jamis frame. We own newer Specialized, Trek, and Cannondale bikes and this is as good as any of them.

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Dakar XCT Pro Mountain Bike 2012:

This bike suffers from poor design and flimsy construction. It is not laterally stiff enough and does not have adequate crank clearance. You get what you pay for. The components are great but the frame geometry is poor and construction is poor. I broke the rear triangle on mine and got a warranty part but I cannot keep play out of the rear triangle no matter what I try. I would put these components on my Trek Ex 8 but most won't fit. I am a light rider and I have never had such a terrible bike. I wouldn't pay more than $1000 for this bike. I have the 2011 carbon frame you can have it if you pay the shipping!
