Simply a quality pedal
This is my third pair of "lower end" Shimano spd clipless pedals over the past 16 years. They are great in every way. Right out of the box they are simple to get in and out of and the white color matches some of the other components on my new mtn bike. The xtr version looks a tad better, but I couldn't rationalize the price for a few grams of weight reduction. I looked at other brands (crank bros) but why change if these pedals a just about perfect in every way?

Excellent balance of cost and performance.
These pedals are just about as good as you can get. They're easy to clip and unclip, but they are a bit heavy. With the cost difference between these and the XT, I'm not sure the extra money is worth the weight difference unless you're super competitive. I know I can lose more weight around my waistline compared to the grams I can drop on expensive bike parts. Plus, with them being a bit more burly, I'm confident that I can bash them on rocks and still get back to the car. You really can't beat the features and function at the price I got them.

Great pedal, even for first time clip-in users
I use these pedals on my Moutain bike and they offer easy entry/exit as well as great adjustability. They also have just enough platform if there are areas you don't want to be clipped in for but still need to pedal. Overall, great pedal!

solid performer
Ride 3 days a week variety of trails from wide singletrack to rough Rocky vertical terrain and have used the M520 and M540 for years. Decided to give these a try though skeptical about the utility of the platform. Once clipped, they feel just like the non-platform versions. The biggest riding difference for me is re-starting on a hill, going up or down. Much more control before you have the chance to clip in. That alone makes me prefer this pedal, but there are other plusses. The outer edge is blank where the 520/540 has a plastic plug that inevitably gets beat to a pulp, and the pedal is ridiculously easy to service; I can disassemble lube and reassemble both sides without removing from the crank in 2 minutes. Oh, and they come with a set of cleats, so you are paying how much for the pedals? Get them.

Great Step into Clipless
I'm an Avid Cyclist slowly building my abilities up. I have gotten to the point where my Abilities have gotten good enough that I felt comfortable attaching myself to the bike. I didn't want to spend a great deal of money on something that was "experimental". So I found these on Jenson and thought for that cheap it would work okay. I took off my flats and put these on. The initial adjustment to get them the right tension was simple with a few turns of an Allen wrench. They lock easily when you're getting on and I haven't had any issues ditching when I needed too. If your are experimenting with clipless pedals these are a great way to go. Cheap, reliable, and they function great.

Top notch, bought a pair for my mtn bike, liked them so much I bought a pair for my road bike. Everyone whines about weight, maybe they shouldn't use any pedals....

Best pedal I have ever used!
This is quite possibly the best pedals I have used. I've used M520's for quite a while and decided to try this because of the platform. The platform of the M530 makes it easier to 'find' the pedal. And its also far quicker to index the cleats into the pedal than the M520 which often times you will have to roll/spin to get the cleat in. The easiest and quickest pedal to clip in that I used was the M647 but that pedal is much heavier than the SLX M530.

I also had recently mounted this to my hybrid for city/urban/fitness riding and clipping in from a stop is faster than M520's on my road bike.

First timers will appreciate the ease of use, just make sure the retention is set towards " - " or the loose setting. These come with single release cleats so change to multi-release if you want a cleat that will disengage by pulling upwards in a panic stop.

Great Pedals--Great Price
I've always used Shimano pedals, road and mountain. This is the first replacement pair I've bought in years and they do not disappoint. The larger platform is great although took a couple of rides to get used to. I didn't adjust the tension and it is at a medium setting out of the box. I know they maybe a bit heavy but I'm not too worried about all that as I just enjoy trail riding for the fun of it. You can't beat the quality of these pedals for the price!

These changed my view of clipless pedals
When I got back into mountain biking 3 years ago, I tried clipless with Egg Beaters, and HATED it. I could not get out of them in a hurry no matter how much I practiced. Crashed and Crashed and then switched to Flat pedals, and sticky rubber shoes.

Recently started racing and looking around at 99.9% of the riders on clipless I decided to try the egg beaters again. FAIL. Some friends recommended SPD pedals with the multi-release cleats. I have the tension almost all the way backed off, and I must admit I feel like I am cheating (as my confidence grows on them I will be tightening the tension up). Combined with some Shimano SPD shoes, the multi-release cleats, I am in LOVE.

Probably not going back to Flats, except to practice and keep my skills polished. JensonUSA delivers once again with wicked fast delivery (not sure how it is even possible to be this fast) and the absolute LOWEST prices around. Thanks JensonUSA and Shimano for finally getting me the right setup on clipless. Once these wear out I will probably get the XT/XTR version without the platform, but for now the platform is making it easier for me to flip the pedal to get in.

I would recommend these to anyone (especially new to clipless riders). I also recommend new riders stick with flat pedals and sticky rubber shoes until they are confident in their skills and have mastered track stands, can bunny hop / lift the rear of the bike, etc

The only downside to these things is they are BOAT ANCHORS when it comes to weight, but hey for the price, and the durability what else can you expect. LOVE EM.
