Easton XC 26" Rear Wheel OE

Easton XC 26" Wheel

With the recent popularity of 29” wheeled mountain bikes, many still prefer the nimble, agile ride that comes from a 26” wheeled mountain bike. The smaller 26” wheel means less obstacle rollover ability, therefore a smaller wheel ought to be built like a tank, as it will take bigger hits. The Easton XC 26” wheel is an all mountain wheel that combines lightweight and durability at an inviting value. The Easton XC 26” is tubeless compatible meaning less pinch flats and higher performance. The aluminum rim and 24 J-bend spokes provide maximum strength that can withstand the unforgiving trail.

  • Weight: Rear (970g)
  • Rim Type: Tubeless
  • Spokes: J-bend, Black
  • Spoke Count: 24
  • Wheel Size: 26”
  • Material: Aluminum
  • Rotor: 6 bolt
  • Rear Hub: 12mm x 142

Narrow, oh so narrow
The inside width of the rim is 17.5 mm. I would not have bought this wheel if I'd realized that. I wonder if that's why that key fact is not listed. What is listed is the claim that this is an "all mountain wheel," and since 2010 or so few would agree that a wheel this skinny is fit for AM.

For comparison, the Stans Flow EX (an AM rim) has an inner width of 25.5 mm. The old skinny Flows were 22.5.

17.5 mm. Man, I wish someone had mentioned that in a review before I bought mine.

Wanted Simple and got it
My first upgrade to my XC bike was to save some weight and the wheels seemed like most potential bang for the buck. I wanted it to be easy and figured I would LOVE to try tubeless. The wheels are definitely lighter than my stockers. They arrived strait and true. Once installed setup was a no brainer and basically required no tinkering. I'm in the 200lb range and I can see where these fall short on the stiffness scale, that's really all I am left to be unsatisfied about. I feel the price however was worth it and would have bought again

PROS: Cost, Ease of Use, Weight, Look

CONS: Stiffness

BEST USES: Hobbiest, Light trails

Price = GREAT!, Wheel = meh...
I ordered this because the Sale price was Awesome.
Heard some bad things about the engagement, which is actually worse then I thought. Must be 13 to 15 degrees!
I also heard some bad things about the durability of the hub, but for the very little money spent, I have hope. It is for x-country, and I'll be putting through a bit harsher life, but I'll see...
For a cheap wheel, I'd probably do it again.

PROS: cheap, Looks great, Smooth rolling

CONS: Slow Engaugement

You get what you pay for...
Got this to replace my stock Stumpjumper FSR 12x142 rear wheel. Setup was simple, tubeless was a snap with Schwalbe Fat Albert 2.4, Stans tape, WTB Valve.
This wheel lasted three months. After replacing three spokes within this time, I gave up when the freehub body went out when I was 8 miles into a ride. Was able to nurse it back to the rig. I tore into it and the frehub body had some major wear on it. I had to pry the cassette off with a tire lever, and was amazed by the amount of damage after such a short period of use. I tried contacting Easton (good luck) but haven't heard back. I have since ordered a DT Swiss EX1750 replacement. Mounted that yesterday and can't wait for the trails to dry up a bit.
The Easton wheel is good for light duty riding, or a good wheel to put on a bike before you sell it. I'm 6'1", 210#, and I ride XC. You get what you pay for...

PROS: Tubeless setup, Cost

CONS: Narrow Rim, Freehub Body

BEST USES: Budget builds, Light duty

never got to try it
I received the wheel and went to put it on my bike, then noticed the nearly half inch hole where the skewer goes all my other wheels I have ever owned had the same size hole for the skewer axle. This was never mentioned in the description. Had to send it back on my own dime.!!! Very disappointing.
