Giro Factor Shoes 2012

Giro had a brilliant idea - add Easton EC90 carbon fiber, which already enjoys an well-deserved reputation for light weight, stiffness, and durability, to their brand new road shoe concept. The Factor is the result of that marriage.

Factor manages to deliver both excellent power transfer and the comfort you want for longer rides. It features a Teijin microfiber upper that shapes to your unique foot shape. The ratcheting buckle closure allows you to easily fine-tune the fit for the finishing sprint without dismounting.

The sole is a thing of beauty, the use of EC90 unidirectional carbon allows Giro to keep the sole incredibly thin (just 6.5mm) which provides a more direct connection to the pedals.

2012 Giro Factor Shoes Features

  • Adjustable SuperNatural Fit Kit allows you to tune the level of arch support
  • Claimed 255 grams (size 42)
  • Mid-foot "D" ring straps help prevent pressure points
  • Internals feature X-Static anti-microbial fiber (prevents stinkiness)
  • Accepts the common "3 hole" clipless road cleats (i.e., the LOOK standard, or other makes built to the same 3-hole triangle mounting pattern)

I stalked these shoes for a while before I finally pulled the trigger, and now that I've put a few hundred kms on them, I gotta say that I totally love them. Super light and stiff, with terrific power transfer to the pedals, & nicely adjustable with the 3 arch support options (still deciding which I prefer). And the tongue stays centred, unlike my old Shimanos. The sole is shockingly thin -- you may even want to drop your seatpost a couple of mm to compensate if you're bike is fitted to older, especially non-carbon shoes.

As for fit, I have a slightly narrow foot with a Morton's toe, but the toe box is just roomy enough to accommodate it that no prob. I wear a 9.5/10 in street shoes and the 43.5s were right on.

Now about that colour: it really is intense, pearlescent -- like they're lit from within. The photo doesn't do them justice. On your first ride wearing these babies you will get comments, but anything disparaging will only come from those too timid to show this kinda style. (The red actually works with my club gear & my bike, which is a nice bonus.) In short: go for it. Especially for this price, which is a flat-out steal. And you will never, ever lose them in your gear closet.

I have the older style SPD for my Mt Bike and my Road bike so I have been sharing shoes for the road. I decided to pull the trigger when I saw the price was so good. I bought the shoes and pedals. I went by the Sizing Chart listed on Jenson USA. I wear a size 10 USA so I ordered the the same from the chart. These things are way too small. I could get them on my foot without socks but they were so tight my toes were touching the front and my feet were throbbing from the tightness. I decided to cut my losses and send everything back to Jenson. This happened to me once before and Jenson made me pay for the return shipping. This is the last time I buy shoes from Jenson. The size chart is incorrect and they will not pay for the shipping.

Comments about Giro Factor Shoes 2012:

I love these shoes. I was getting foot pain and numbness with the sidis and diadoras I previously used. I went up a size from 41 to 41.5 and have had no foot issues. I love that they give you 3 different insoles. I use the high arch for my left foot where I was having a lot of pain and the medium arch for my right foot.

I love the red color, it's bright and I can pick myself out in racing photos. The shoes are stiff and comfortable and light weight. Great for racing. Can't say enough good about these shoes.

Great product, bought them on sale, couldn't be happier with their quality and design. Really comfy, ventilated, light road shoes and they seem durable. It only

However I ordered a bigger size due that this brand tends to run small. Furthermore, their color is not as red as in the picture, but not an issue for me.

Nice fit, seem to be good quality so far, and good stiff soles for good power transfer. If you can get here on sale, they are worth it. The arch inserts ae nice if you have really low or high arches.
