I never would have spent $225 on mtb shoes because I ride really aggressive trail here in Halifax, Nova Scotia and I prefer boots for greater protection. But I just bought a cyclocross bike and Jenson's huge sale screamed "GAMBLE!" right in my ear! Never got to try them on. Figured that since a size 42 in a Shimano shoe works for me, I would try a 42.5 in these. What a relief; they fit great and are slightly too big the way I like just like the 42 Shimano. Not as generous in the tox box as a Shimano shoe, but supple enough that I can get away with it! I have high arches and can't use any more than half of the middle strap and I have a wide foot. I'm sure that the more I wear them, they will stretch slightly and be just perfect. I like these shoes, am hugely pleased with the massive deal I got (Thank You Jenson U.S.A.)and I'm convinced that I would have no problem with paying more than I did. So there.

nice shoes, toe box too small for me

they are great shoes if you have narrow forefoot. they are stiff, responsive and fit well in the pedals.

Satisfied with this purchase overall. They are a bit snug fitting with the insoles, however I think over time/use they will become more relaxed. They are a slimmer fit which is nice and look great.

Comments about Giro Gauge Mountain Shoes 2012:

These are my first pair of clipless shoes. I was worried about sizing and fit. I wear 9.5 street shoes and ordered 43.5 - it was the only size left for the sale that I could consider. Accepting it as fate, I ordered them and what do you know? They fit perfectly. The cleats do not touch the ground when walking if the ground is perfectly flat. If there are slight bumps, they will touch. I wear them to work and while at work. I can't run in them or anything but they are good enough for walking.

Also, they are warm enough to wear during winter. I was looking for shoes I could wear during cold weather, and I found them. Even down to -10 Celsius, they are warm enough if paired with warm socks. My commute is only 20 minutes, though.

Overall, I couldn't have asked for better shoes, especially for the price.

These shoes look great and are light weight.
The sole is very stiff compared with Shimano SPD MTB shoes I have owned in the past.

In Shimano I wear a 49 which is a perfect fit.
                  I got these Giro's in a 50 and also a perfect fit.

Comments about Giro Gauge Mountain Shoes 2012:

These shoes have been great so far. Due to the weather, I have only been able to use them on a couple of indoor rides (1 hr each), but they were perfectly comfortable throughout the ride. The sole is nice and stiff, and the shoes remained in place and secure. I had a little difficulty clipping in, but this may just be my inexperience with clipless shoes (this is my first pair).

I normally wear a size 8 shoe, and ended up ordering the equivalent of a 7.5 (size 40.5 European), and they fit perfectly, so I recommend going down a half size from your shoe size.

As a bonus, these come with 2 pairs of inserts - 1 intended for their included arch supports (3 sizes of arch supports included) and 1 without the velcro for the arch supports. I put the archless insert in my boots, and they are quite a nice bonus!

I will be sure to update when I have ridden a few more times with these shoes in regards to their durability and overall comfort.

                      Cheers!

These shoes are great! I have about a year on them. They are stiff and the arch support choices helped the fitting of the shoes. One of the buckles is a little finicky. It is stiff and does not ratchet down smoothly but still works. Overall a great pair of shoes for the price. I mountain bike and road bike in them. No foot pain issues. I wear an 8 1/2 shoe and I got these in a 42.5 which fits well.

These are my commuting shoes (20-30miles).
The EC 70 is ideal for that. Plenty stiff to not give you discomfort on your ride, yet, just enough flex so you can maneuver when walking.
