Shimano PD-M540 Pedals

Inspired by the top of the line XTR racing pedals, the M540 offers a similar sculpted body and minimalist axle design. The open body sheds mud easily and yields easy cleat entry and exit in all types of riding conditions. SPD® binding mechanisms on both sides of the pedal make entry fast and easy without the need for pedal flipping. Adjustable release tension lets you dial in the binding mechanism. This is the top-of-the-line pedal for those who don't want the top of the line price.

Package includes two pedals and Shimano SPD cleats.

I ride technical All Mountain and have been using these for quite a while. Adjustability a major plus. Switched from Crank Bros Candy pedals. I find the cleats on the Shimanos last so much longer than the CB cleats. You actually "save" money by buying these pedals over the CB!

I would actually get the 530 Pedals instead. I weighed both using only my hands and the 540 seemed just a tad lighter however the 530 has the big cage around the pedals. If you ask me it is easier to clip in using the 530's and with nearly no weight penalty I would say buy the 530's instead. I'll keep the 540's because on sale they were not that much money but felt I was a sucker to buy them.

Have always purchased shimano spds and they have all been bullet proof. The float on the pedals is great and they seem
Very smooth. Easy to get in and out of.
Fast shipping and to my door pricing (Canada)
I think I made the right choice saving the $$$ and not getti the XT ones, these are great so far.

Comments about Shimano PD-M540 Clipless Pedal:

Highly functional with great value, for me these pedals are worth the few extra dollars over the m520s for their noticeably more elegant spindle design. The float is not very smooth but doesn't feel self-centered at all, so it is pretty easy to find a comfortable heel angle without having the cleats aligned millimeter perfect. For the price, it is pretty hard to go wrong.

Went to buy a spare set of SPD cleats and for not that much more i was able to get this pedal set, which is only a step below the XT's - awesome deal and excellent quality!

I've only got about 100 miles on these pedals so far, but they've been the perfect platform for gravel. Easy to get in and out of and the SPD platform is great if you ever have to hike-a-bike
