Great SPD pedal for when you need to clip in and out on the trails. The design for the platform allows for the cleat to rest in properly, and for those rare times that you don't, there is enough of an outer platform to keep your feet in place.

Outer platform helps with long rides, since my MTB shoes aren't as stiff.

I've been an SPD user on my mountain bikes for years (520s), with generally good experience. Always a little difficult for me to "find" in the moment, but always reliable release (especially with the SH56 cleats). Have been using Crank Bros Mallets for a couple years now. Love the platform and ease of "finding". But very disappointed with failures to release. Not many - but more than with the SPD's, & usually with some level of consequence to the ol' bod. Opted to go back to SPD's with the PD530s, for several reasons. First; the more reliable release. Second; so I could still get some platform like with the Mallets. Third; because the 520s were always easy to use & reliable. As usual, the SPD's are difficult for me to "find", but then to add insult to injury, they're very difficult to engage. I need to stomp to engage. And this with adjustment light enough for a few pre-releases (purposefully). I can't see any evidence of mis-manufacturing on either the pedals or cleats (brand new SH56's). I don't know what the story is. Frankly, I'm tired of fussing with it all. So as a result - I think I'm done with clipless. As with my hard-tails - I'm going flats.

Comments about Shimano PD M530 SLX Trail Clipless Pedal:

Haven't had much time on these yet but so far so good. I was looking for a style that had very open mechanism that would clear mud and rocks easily, but was also comfortable with flip flops, as I don't always have my shoes on around the campground, park, or beach. These have delivered so far. The entry and exit is a little rough still, but they'll probable wear in, or i'll file the rough edges a little. Clearly the manufacturing is a little rough, but they seem strong, super economical, and meet my expectations!

Comments about Shimano PD M530 SLX Trail Clipless Pedal:

Have used clipless for many years, however, decided to use these on a new mountain bike on the North Shore. Mistake...not the pedals...just the fact of re-acquainting myself with clipless on a technical trail.
Otherwise pedals are great, might have to tighten the adjustment a lot as they come very loose in stock position. Comes with cleats too!

Comments about Shimano PD M530 SLX Trail Clipless Pedal:

As weekend warrior rider, this is a good and solid pedal. Also the extra big platform is a plus for me, I can use regular shoes when I'm pulling my daughters bicycle trailer and tag-along bike. It's a bit heavy for lighter frame, but I can't complain the deal I got this for.

Makes my feet feel much better to have a little bit extra under them. Also gets rid of any chance of soreness after a few hours of riding. Super reliable in terms of getting in and out. No rusting like some of the previous crank bros pedals Ive used.

Comments about Shimano PD M530 SLX Trail Clipless Pedal:

They are tough enough to stand up to being banged against rocks again and again with little wear and no difference made to entry/exit. Entry/exit is reliable but the platform is nice for having confidence that if you can't clip in at a key moment when on something technical there is enough to keep your feet on to ride through it as well.

They're a bit heavy, but work really well and if weight isn't a primary consideration they are extremely good value.

Love the look of the white ones.

Finally a pedal that allows me to get in and out when I want. They are a little heavier, but allow you to pedal without clipping in. No one wants to see you fall over struggling to unclip your feet. Do yourself a favor and get a pair of these pedals.

Comments about Shimano PD M530 SLX Trail Clipless Pedal:

These replaced my stock platform pedals and were my first experience with clipless. They were easy to install and seem to work well; I have no complaints.

The release is adjustable, I keep them set loose so when I panic and rip my foot out, it doesn't get stuck. I have only been mt. biking for a few months, but I really enjoy the power and feel of clipless. I recently rode a bike with platforms and I instantly missed clipping in.
