I used these tyres (26er) to convert my Scott Spark 60 to an urban tank as part of my rehab for a broken leg. They went easily onto my spare wheelset and voila im getting back to strength on the road. They roll SO WELL and are perfect for using my mtb as a road trainer until i can handle bumby trails again. Really love them. I hate the look of thin tyres on an mtb it just doesnt look right, so these were nice and fat and looked the part.

massive & heavy. The quality is excellent. These tires are difficult to mount. Once mounted the ride is plush when inflated @ 50psi or lower. Go higher and they will roll better but you get a harsher ride. If you are used to light weight mtb tires then you will be disappointed with the weight and handling - particularly the acceleration.

Comments about Maxxis Hookworm Wire Bead Tire:

Great for the pavement, light offroad even if this tire used mainly by free riders. But if you're a weight whinnies, don't ever bother cause this tire is on the heavy side. I like it, it serve the purpose for me especially that I use this for speed training.

Comments about Maxxis Hookworm Wire Bead Tire:

Great commuting tire, good on pavement and gravel. Wide range of inflation, from 20 to 65 psi. Sheds water well, sticks to the pavement, rolls like a dream, makes my Salsa Mukluk with 29plus wheels feel like a road bike. Durable; the sidewalls won't fall apart on this tire like they do on a light weight tire that costs three times as much money.

Comments about Maxxis Hookworm Wire Bead Tire:

Used them to do winter road and gravel riding on my fat bike. I use 50mm rims so it spreads the 2.5 width out closer to 3". It is not as heavy and comber some as 4+" tires, and no self steer. Love these tires!

Comments about Maxxis Hookworm Wire Bead Tire:

Loving these tires! Transformed my old hardtail to tackle the Phoenix jungle. I'm 6'8" 360#s. The 65 psi Max fits the bill for me. Have put just under 200 miles so far. Haven't even wore off the center nibs! Smooth riding absorbing small sidewalk cracks, manhole covers. Even have done 3 miles off-road. Did not air down even. Did excellent on the hardpack, loose over hard, and survived the sharp ROCKS without leaving a mark on the tire.
The extra large size was a tight fit on my GT. Raised the bike a good 1.5" (27.5" overall height) affecting gear selection a bit. The thick tread wrapping around almost the the rim takes away our local goathead, broken glass, road debree worries.
Bottom line is I can't imagine a better tire for how I use my bike. Did a set of skinny street tire for two weeks. Hated how they made the bike look. Always looked low on air when riding. Now my bike looks aggressive again. Very happy with the minimal rolling resistance. Will be putting Hookworms on the wifes bike soon.

Haven't hit the trails lately, so needed a fast rolling road tire. Had the WTB Slicks, didn't like b/c it didn't corner well at hi speed. Replaced w/ hookworm, big difference. Tire is very sturdy, fast rolling. I lean heavy on turns at high speeds, no problem tire grips very well on road. Tires also performed well on hard-pack. Like any road type tire, slippery in wet condition although this tire is not to bad. 2.5 width looks good on 29er.

Comments about Maxxis Hookworm Wire Bead Tire:

I have been a lifelong cyclist and currently ride a road and mountain bike regularly. The hardtail 29er has been seeing mainly commuter duty for the past several months and when the knobbies were finally finished I decided to upgrade. Are there more specific tires for commuting? Sure. But those skinny little tires look WRONG on a 29er! Are these heavy? Maybe but I honestly can't feel a big enough difference to complain about. Especially given the improved ride, faster roll, better momentum, great looks and puncture resistance. It was a GREAT choice for me!!

My 29er is equipped with tubeless ready rims. I'm currently running tubes though because my current tires' sidewalls have some worn spots and won't hold air.

Will these work well without tubes, with sealant on tubeless rims? I've never run anything except for kevlar beaded tires tubeless. Not sure how well it would work w/ wire beads...
