I bought these pedals for my Trek DS 8.6. It was an attractive design and I read good reviews. After 250 miles I noticed a lot of play in the bushings/bearings. I immediately called Blackspire and and the person on the other end of the line argued with me that I didn't service the pedals correctly. I said I only had 250 miles on them. He said when mountain biking pedals take a lot of abuse and need to be service constantly. I laughed, said I never done that before with any pedal. Plus, then I added that I wasn't mountain biking with them, I just ride the paved bike paths. He then commented that that was even worst on pedals then mountain biking. I realized at this point I was getting nowhere with this conversation. He then told me he was in the business for 45 years and everybody's pedal bearings will wear if not properly serviced. Again, I told him the only had 250 miles on the pedals. At this point I decided to end the call. I will try another brand and hope for the best.

    Comments about Blackspire SUB4 Pedals:

I weigh in at 300+ lbs and after 250 miles of mild singletrack, these pedals have not bent. I have managed to bend several "high end" brands of ChroMo pedals that cost more than these. These are the only pedals that can stand up to my fat carcass. These things are bulletproof.

Great pedals that keep my feet in place.I wear running shoes and the cleats (pins)fit right into the soles of my shoes.Perfect.Be careful making emergency stops as these can shred legs most efficiently.

              Comments about Blackspire SUB4 Pedals:

I remove my pedals for easier transport of the bike. The pedals require a pedal wrench to install. A good pedal wrench is inconvenient to carry because they are rather long. Cheap pedal wrenches are not worth having. I found a thin 4.5 mm speciality Craftsman wrench to use. I carry the wrench with me in case the pedals work loose while I ride.

I installed holdfast straps to keep my feet from bouncing off in rough terrain. I do not like clipless pedals. These were an upgrade to my toe clip cage pedals.
