The Tomac Nevegal features a tread pattern that was voted #1 tread pattern 2 years in a row by Mountain Bike Action Magazine. Ramped center knobs provide traction and speed while tall side knobs are designed to penetrate and hold on loose terrain.
  • DTC (Dual Tread Compound) - L3R Pro compound (60a durometer) in middle and Stick-E rubber compound (50a durometer) on sides/cornering knobs
  • L3R (Low Rolling Resistance Rubber) Pro compound has longer tread life, less rolling resistance and improved grip
  • Stick-E is a slow rebound, high-grip compound for downhill, freeride or trail
  • Tall knobs designed to penetrate and hold on loose terrain
  • Kenda does not endorse the use of any fluid-based sealant products in any Kenda tube-type or tubeless-type tires. Use of any fluid-based products will void any warranty claims

For the last 10+ years I have run only Panaracer Fire XC. They last forever grab good both new and old and wear evenly through the useful life. I purchased this tire on sale for [$] and figured I would give it a try. First interaction I noted that it was an obvious knock off of the Fire XC tread design. The knob design is obviously different but at the same time very much the same. Knob placement is almost identical with the key difference in that the Kenda spaced the knobs a little further apart. This spacing leads to more road noise riding to and from the trailhead and causes the tread to pick up and huck larger pebbles. The grip on trail is good for both straightline and turning. Overall I am satisfied with this tire. As of now I have only run it as a front, with my old front Fire XC on the rear. I plan to reverse the tire rotation when I move it to the back to create a scoop (just like the XC). Tread wear has been great and these look like they will last as long as the XC. Have I found a new favorite? No but if the price is right then I will purchase again in the future.

I have very mixed feelings with this one.It performs really well in its window of use, but has a few notable glitches:

- has a very narrow window of usable pressure: too much and you'll bounce around like crazy, too little and it's pinchflat galore. It does perform nicely when you get it to the correct pressure though.

- the sidewalls are just too fragile for rocky terrain.Four days on rocky alpine terrain and I had 7-8 sidewall cuts and sidewall SNAKEBITES on the rear. The tire was unusable afterwards. It was fine for a week before that on more woodsy terrain with only one slight sidewall scrape, so it obviously really doesn't like rocks.

Bottom line, they are a good choice if you ride on smooth(ish) terrain, rocky terrain, not so much.

Comments about Kenda Nevegal DTC Folding 26" Tire:

Excellent trail tire for most terrains, especially at pricepoint! Keep away from the pavement, super hardpack, or competition cyclists and you'll not have the problems others quote. This is the best Kenda tire for general purpose to serious trails. Handles the greasy roots and rocks when I rode in Washington State, and I didn't have any problems shedding the mud like others stated. This tire is also handling the granite-dirt-sandy trails of the Sierras where I ride now. I've always been a knobby fan with this type of design, and with the DTC it gives great grip on most any surface and corners, while also providing great wear. There are better choices if you're looking for specific conditions: Kenda short block 8 or slant 6 if you ride pavement and just hardpack, or something higher end $$ if you pro race, DH or dig rock hopping. But for a great multi-purpose trail tire at this pricepoint, you can't go wrong with this tire.

I got a set of the 26x2.35" for my Nomad. Really good compliment to the bike. These seem to have a great amount of traction for all the conditions in Southern California.

Comments about Kenda Nevegal DTC Folding 26" Tire:

Sweet tires for the Colorado trails I ride which are sand, loose and loamy. I have no problems laying down in corners and with steep, loose descents. Also rode these at the Vail mountain and they were almost too grippy on the hard clay, but then really shown on the loose steep black trails.

Comments about Kenda Nevegal DTC Folding 26" Tire:

The Nevegal is an excellent all around tire for most terrains. They could call it The Gecko with the way it grips and climbs. I have always preferred a knobbier tire because of the varied terrain I ride, hard pack, sandy soil, gravel, roots and rocks. The Nevegals handle all of it wonderfully. Climbs that required a bit of finesse to prevent my other tires from slipping are no problem for these. The Nevegals just grip and climb. Some reviews have mentioned high rolling resistance that takes a lot of power to overcome, but I find these tires to roll quite easily on anything except pavement. If you ride primarily hard pack and some pavement you would probably be better with the Small Block 8 or another tire with less aggressive tread. The Nevegals aren't very good in any kind of mud either, but in my climate the trails are rarely muddy. When I have encountered mud, the tread sheds it fairly well. I am highly impressed with the Nevegals and can't imagine that tires costing twice as much would perform twice as well. When these eventually wear out I will definitely order another set.

Comments about Kenda Nevegal DTC Folding 26" Tire:

For me the Nevegal 2.1 DTC just works. I usually ride in looser, sometimes rocky soil in the Eastern U.S. and I use it as a front tire with an Excavator on the rear. I've tried other tires, but none so far has the confidence inspiring grip of this one, so I keep coming back to it. I also own the UST version and it feels like the cornering grip is even better on that one, probably due to the more substantial sidewalls. I have the stick-e version too, but the rolling resistance was too high for my preference.
