An incredible value in an offroad clipless pedal from Shimano! The M520 pedal features adjustable in/out release tension and includes a set of SH51 SPD cleats with 4 degrees of float. While they only weigh slightly more than the higher-end XT and XTR pedals from Shimano, they boast all of the same features and the same high-grade performance at a fraction of the price. These pedals will serve you well and wont break the bank. Dual sided mechanism lets you easily clip in with a simple step, without looking down at your shoes.

Compatible with shoes drilled with SPD compatible (2 bolt) drilling, but can be used with 3-bolt (Road style) shoes with the use of cleat adaptors.

Weight: 370 grams (weight does not include cleats)
Float: 4 degrees
Material: Aluminum, Chromoly Spindle, 9/16"

I put these on my fixed-gear, which has 1,300 miles on it (since November '12), so the mileage on the pedals is less than that.

They were my first pair of clipless pedals, so I didn't want to break the bank. I've been 100% happy with them. They're solid, they clip in reliably every time (and you can hear/feel it, so you know you're in), and I haven't adjusted the settings because the defaults worked pretty well for me.

They've taken a fair bit of abuse without any issues (there's a few dings and paint chips, but functionally they are still 100%).

I haven't taken them off-road yet, but I would be pretty confident doing so: my road riding has encountered a fair bit of mud/grime/ice, none of which interferes with the pedal operation.

The only negative I can think of is weight. At 370g (w/o cleats), they're a little heavy, but you get what you pay for. If weight is an issue, then go with a lighter, more pricey option.

Side note: I have size 12 feet, and I've been using these with Chrome Truk SPD shoes, which aren't lightweight by any stretch of the imagination. I also will sometimes go out for a quick spin wearing street shoes, and the pedals are plenty comfortable/grippy even without cleats.

All in all, these are a good buy if you're considering making the jump to clipless pedals.

Decent pedal, a bit heavy

I used these almost year before I had to replace the non-crank side pedal, one of the bushings or bearings was destroyed after a couple of pedal strikes while mountain biking.

I used these almost year before I had to replace the non-crank side pedal, one of the bushings or bearings was destroyed after a couple of pedal strikes while mountain biking.

These are very good for a first timer, the engagement is easy and intuitive, and the adjustability is great and makes releasing the foot again very easy to learn. I would try these again, but would be a lot more gentle with them.

Getting back into mt. biking and needed a good pair of click-ins, but not spend a lot. Did some research, read reviews, and decided on this set. Installed, preformed a little fine tuning on the release tension, and I was off and pedalling! I'm very happy with this purchase!!

I use these on my short daily rides as well as on long distance weekend rides. Easy to click in and out of especially nice in city riding. Since the clips are on both sides there's never a concern as to which side is facing up. I find these to be comfortable on the long rides as well. I'm an avid cyclist ans have no complaints about these pedals.

I have been trying to buy replacement axles assemblies for my old 747 pedals for months. Finally I wised up and realized that the mid and low end SPD pedals use the same axle design. So, I bought this pair of pedals, took the axles out of them, and put them in my 747's. They work perfectly. I threw the body of the M520's in the trash. Not sure if they are good pedals or not, but the axles work perfectly in 747 pedals.
