Giro Prolight SLX Shoe 2012

The Prolight SLX redefines fit, feel and power-to-weight performance in a lightweight shoe. Starting with a select Teijin microfiber upper that shapes to your foot like a second skin, Giro then added an ultralight EVA footbed plus a SuperNatural Fit Kit footbed with adjustable arch support so you can customize the fit to match your needs. At only 6.5mm thick, the high-modulus Easton® EC90 SLX outsole is exceptionally thin and light yet provides best-in-class stiffness for maximum power transfer. Titanium hardware reduces weight even further. If you’re looking for the lightest pro-level shoe without compromise, this is it.

Giro Prolight SLX Shoe Features

  • Teijin AG100 ultra-light microfober upper
  • 3 strap closure
  • Offset "D-rings" made of titanium to reduce pressure points and reduce weight
  • Easton EC90 SLX high-modulus carbon sole
  • Ultra-light EPP footbed with X-Static anti-microbial fiber
  • Approximate weight 205 grams
  • Works with road 3 bolt cleats(Look style)

I've worn several high-end shoes (Pearl Izumi PRO Leader, Sidi Genius 5 and even the Giro Factor) and none even came close to the fit and stiffness of this shoe. Size 47 with Keo cleats came to 510 grams -- these things are light as a feather. The supernatural fit system that comes with the shoe is excellent, and allows for three different arch levels. The high arch does it for me, and results in an insole that feels custom made. The uppers are a bit stiff at first, but have since conformed to my feet and feel almost like a slipper. The Easton carbon sole is extremely thin (I had to lower my saddle height 5mm to accommodate) and extremely stiff. The entire system results in a shoe that translates, quite simply, into an excellent platform to transfer power. Finally, you should serve hard time for what these cost -- $120 for a $360 road shoe of this caliber is highway robbery. I'm so impressed that I might buy 2 extra pair -- these shoes are that good, and easily the best cycling money I've ever spent.

Purchased these shoes to replace a pair of Shimano's I've had for a year that were a little too big. Wanted to upgrade to a nicer shoe and the price on the Prolight SLX was too good to pass up. Shoes are as light as advertised and fit my foot well, but I found that the top Velcro strap was too short to tighten down securely so I had to return them.

A great upgrade from my Shimanos! Super light and comfortable. My Shimanos used to get hot spots in the toes. These distributes the weight evenly throughout my feet. Great for climbing!

A note on sizing. I wear an 11B or 11.5B, depending on the shoe. Although they look small, the 45.5 in this shoe fits perfectly. It is snug all around, much more so than D width shoes which are too loose for my feet.

So, if you have wide feet these will likely be too narrow. If you have narrow and not ultra-high arched feet, perfect.

They are also very light, stiff and beautiful.

They simply are fantastic. Very light with a great fit and a super power transfer. With my custom inserts, no pressure points of any sort. I use them for racing only since I do not to wear them out prematurely while using for training.
The price from Jenson makes these shoes a deal of a century....I just wish I bought another pair or two while they had them in my size. Thank you Jenson; quality product, amazing price and super service.

Comments about Giro Prolight SLX Shoes 2012:

These are light, stiff, comfortable, and an overall great value. As others have said, the front buckle is too short. It's simply a design flaw. I attach it and there is barely any Velcro holding it, but it hasn't come undone yet with about 300 miles so far. I've done a couple 70-80 mile rides, and they remain comfortable enough for me not to think about them.

Comments about Giro Prolight SLX Shoes 2012:

I have a narrow foot with a high arch; finding shoes that fit is a tough task. The Prolight SLX from Giro exceeded my expectations. It features: a custom insole that provides a choice of three arch supports, velcro straps that adjust the shoe to fit your own particular foot volume, and a stiff carbon sole for power delivery. This is the lightest shoe I've ever owned! The Shimano SPD-SL cleats are a perfect match to the curvature of the carbon sole. If you wear a 48 in Sidi's, then a 48 will fit you in the Giro's.

A lightweight shoe with a excellent carbon sole. Sizing is so far off it's comical. I ordered a 46 instead of my usual 44.5. The 46 is borderline to small and the straps are barely long enough for the hook and loop closure to make contact. It's a nice show but order at least 2 sizes larger than what is recommended in the Giro size chart for this shoe.

These are 350 dollar shoes for 110 dollars. It doesn't make sense not to get them. They are really great shoes as 350 dollar shoes should be. I have a 10.5 inch foot 44.5 fits perfectly. I have a slightly wide foot and it still fits great.

At Jenson's prices these are outstanding value for money. The shoes are lighter than any others I've tried. After buying a pair of high quality Italian shoes that were very uncomfortable I decided to go back to Giro that have always been comfortable and durable. Not only were they comfortable from the first ride the quality and performance of the shoes was impressive. The short velcro closures were a problem once I added my orthotics but it was easily overcome. Use a short length of velcro, the same width, available from a hardware store. Just stick it to the existing fixed velcro on the shoe (as an extension), fold over the closure and get on your bike. Very happy with the shoes and Jenson's service and delivery!
