Shimano PD-M520 SPD Pedals

An incredible value in an offroad clipless pedal from Shimano! The M520 pedal features adjustable in/out release tension and includes a set of SH51 SPD cleats with 4 degrees of float. While they only weigh slightly more than the higher-end XT and XTR pedals from Shimano, they boast all of the same features and the same high-grade performance at a fraction of the price. These pedals will serve you well and wont break the bank. Dual sided mechanism lets you easily clip in with a simple step, without looking down at your shoes.

Compatible with shoes drilled with SPD compatible (2 bolt) drilling, but can be used with 3-bolt (Road style) shoes with the use of cleat adaptors.

Weight: 370 grams (weight does not include cleats)
Float: 4 degrees
Material: Aluminum, Chromoly Spindle, 9/16"

I replaced my shimano m737's that I got for free at a bike show back in the early 90's at Pheasant Run Resort in Illinois . So I figured if I get half the life I did out of the 737's I would be doing good. So far I have about 150 miles on them and they seem to be working fine. I didn't mark the light or heavy box because they r about in the middle. Definitely lighter then my m737's and a little more aerodynamic. Fit is nice and snug actually had to get use to them after a few adjustments because my other pedals were clapped out. For the money I don't think u can beat this pedal. I give my old 737's a squirt of mobile one every once in a while and I'll do the same on these. My 737's r now on a old cyclocross bike, so like I said earlier if I get half the life out of them I'm doing good.lol

Decent pedal, a bit heavy

I used these almost year before I had to replace the non-crank side pedal, one of the bushings or bearings was destroyed after a couple of pedal strikes while mountain biking.

I used these almost year before I had to replace the non-crank side pedal, one of the bushings or bearings was destroyed after a couple of pedal strikes while mountain biking.

These are very good for a first timer, the engagement is easy and intuitive, and the adjustability is great and makes releasing the foot again very easy to learn. I would try these again, but would be a lot more gentle with them.

  • Reliable Entry/Exit

Comments about Shimano PD-M520 SPD Pedals:

Low profile, releases reliably, dual-sided. Inexpensive so I don't feel bad about striking rocks (though the pedals are tough enough to take it). I have three sets and use them on both my mountain bikes and my road bike.

Comments about Shimano PD-M520 SPD Pedals:

It's my "go to" pedal. These things are built to take a beating and come back for more. Adjustable tension makes them as easy or hard as you like to enter/exit the pedal. A little on the heavy side, but being a "Rockcrusher" myself, I don't notice. The cleats that are included with the pedals, retail for over half the price of the pedals. You can't go wrong with these pedals.

Great value! Great mtb/cross pedals with no frills. Excellent stability even on rough and loose conditions, very easy to unclip but no unwanted ejections from the pedal. Stiff enough to get solid power on steep climbs. All around outstanding value for the price. I would recommend these for any one from novice to seasoned rider!

It's Shimano, it's inexpensive and your foot clips to it what more do you need? I'm no weight weenie so the weight of these little pedals doesn't bother me in the slightest. Good, quality pedal that does what it's supposed to...why pay the big bucks?
