Rolling stock on my new Kona Process
I have the 27.5 (650b size) and these tires are awesome. I have the EXO sidewall protection which is great because I ride the East coast where there are a ton of sharp rocks, roots etc.

The work pretty well in the mud but are not true mud tires. In all other conditions though, dry, loose dirt etc. they work very well. Fast rolling center tread with blocky sidewalls is the perfect combo for weight and traction.

Because the sidewalls have the EXO I can run a little lower pressure than I usually can.

Great tire
This tire is super well suited for a tacky rear tire. It's not as heavy as some of its more aggressive brethren, so I run a 2.3 Ardent rear and 2.4 HRII front. I haven't had any problems with this tire, side grip is awesome, and it climbed a ton better than the Nobby Nics that my friend has.

Fast rolling tire with good cornering performance on most dry surfaces.
I replace my DHR II with an Ardent to reduce some rear rotational weight. I kept a DHF up front. The Ardent is noticeably lighter on the climbs. It also rolls fast over loose over hard packed terrain. They did extremely well on grippy Utah moon rock too. They corner well but they do not have the same railing feel I had with my DHR. Braking is good and close to my DHR IIs. These tires are horrible in the rain or on any wet surface.

Perfect all-around tire
You wont find a better all-around tire than the Maxxis Ardent. Maxxis tires have WAY more grip than other brand tires I have tried. I pickedthe 2.25 for the front and rear on my Yeti, but you can pick the beefey 2.35 for the front if you are more of a all-mountain rider. The tread depth is deeper on the 2.35 as well. Great tire. Buy it and you wont be disappointed.

Happy with the performance but question the durability. Travel over many types of surfaces and am pleased with traction. Put about 200 miles on them so far and see some wear, nothing significant but is a concern.

Would you use this for downhill racing?
A shopper on Mar 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Maybe in some conditions but typically not. Ultimately it comes down to preference and lots of riders love this tire but it's not built like a true DH tire. I would suggest a heavier casing, larger volume, and knobbier tread for DH.
