Jamis Exile Comp 2012 Mountain Bike

The Jamis Exile Comp has been a huge hit with Jamis for the past few years due to its superior build quality, component selection, and spot- on geometry. The 2012 Jamis Exile Comp was completely over hauled. The newly re-designed frame is comprised of Kinesis 7005 double butted main tubes, and features a tapered head tube, box shaped/ S- bend down tube, and ribbed top tube with integrated seat mast beam to support the extra long 400mm seat posts that every Exile is equipped with.

The Jamis Exile Comp has an impressive component build including a full SRAM drivetrain. SRAM X5 shifters are paired with a SRAM X7 rear derailleur and a SRAM X5 front derailleur. Together they produce 27 gears to cater to your terrain needs. Hayes Dyno Comp hydraulic brakes are strong and reliable. Hydraulic brakes offer better modulation than mechanical brakes. Jamis cockpit pieces add a measure of affordability to the bicycle. The Jamis Exile Comp is a great bang for your buck!

Jamis has gotten the Exile’s geometry down to a science. The 72 degree head angle ensures you’re comfortable on the down hills and able to climb like a young Billy Goat up the hills. With the flickability of a 26” bike, and all of the benefits of a 29”er, the Jamis Exile Race is a great cross country trail bike for the trails in your back yard and yonder.

Fantastic value. SRAM parts work great great frame geometry (more upright), awesome fork, great ride. I picked this bike up for $599 with free shipping. Working with Jenson was a great experience. I'd order from them again.

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Exile Comp Mountain Bike 2012:

This is my first 29er so a lot of my review has to do with difference between 26er and 29er. Love the 29" wheels. The drive train, Shram one finger push-push shifting is great, will never go back to two finger shifting. Also, the bike is great one finger breaking. I changed the shifter-break lever sit up before the first ride. The bike came with shifters on inside of break lever so could not slide the break levers in for better one finger breaking set up (see MTB tips one finger breaking for more info). After moving the break levers to the inside of the shifters and adjusting the position to my liking the bike is a joy to ride. Like the gear set up with a 32t middle chain ring. Hilly-rolling-twisting single track where I ride so a 36T middle ring is too big for my skill level. For the price I paid at Jenson this is a great bike and am very happy with this ride. Saddle is good, grips are good, breaks work very good, tires are good. The coil spring shock with rebound dampening and lock out work very will also. See no need for any up grads until the original equipment wears out. Love this bike!

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Exile Comp Mountain Bike 2012:

Love this bike for the price I got. The bike is out of stock and I don't think Jamis is putting this quality of component on their new exile comp bike so this may not apply to everyone. I rode a 26 hard tail for 12 years and haven't ridden in 10. The 29 inch wheels and disc brakes alone make this bike more fun than my last and it was a full xt bike at around 25lbs. The bike is a bit of a tank but with an upgraded saddle and clipless pedals it is a blast to ride.

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Exile Comp Mountain Bike 2012:

Out of the box you can't beat this bike! I would recommend changing the saddle, pedals, and grips but, most will do that anyway so no biggie... I've been riding this bike for about a year and a half, mostly XC trails and I'm very pleased. this thing really is a steam rolling Billie goat, up, down, rocks, and roots pass with ease. Great equipment for the the $$. Great bike for intermediate/beginner who likes to camp or XC style riding. I would definitely recommend to a friend and Jenson USA is awesome! Great customer service, fast shipping, and great discounts!!

Good bike for the price! I did have problems with the disc brakes with riding it just once in the trails. The gears are also not so smooth. It is also very heavy! But over all its a decent bike for beginners.

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Exile Comp Mountain Bike 2012:

This is an excellent bike for the price. I use it mostly for XC type riding, and have won a few races on it. (got it later in the year). I recommend this for people just getting into the sport, or for someone looking for an upgrade. I have ridden many higher end bikes, and of course, they are superior, but this bike is not far behind. For the price, you can not find a better bike.

The bike came packaged well, like most bikes do. Again, like most bikes, all you have to do is put the handlebars on, put the front wheel on, pedals, and seatpost. At the most, a few adjustments, which I did not have to do.

Highly recommend this bike for someone who wants a good bike for the money.

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Exile Comp Mountain Bike 2012:

Having just taken up mountain biking, I got this to replace a rigid 26" I had been riding. I have only had this out on 6 rides so far, so this is really a preliminary review. I have been riding it on intermediate trails in the Albuquerque foothills.

I was looking for an entry level MTB as I am new to this and didn't want to lay out a ton of money for something that wouldn't stick. Being an Avid cyclist though I wanted something with decent components. This fit the bill particularly the rear deraileur and the front shock. IN my test rides on other bikes of about the same MSRP they really fell down in these two areas. Shifting wasn't as nice and the shocks didn't really do enough. This had the step up in those two areas that I was looking for. Nothing great, but good enough to provide decent results.

The downsides: The breaks are really average with the pull not being anything as snappy or controllable as other better brands. The pedals could really be better, especially given the price point of even adequate platform pedals, And the Handle bars could be wider and the grips better (mine are slipping already). Right now that is my upgrade path, Brakes, Pedals, Bar/grips. With those few adjustments, I think this will be a great bike.

It rolls over almost everything, making technical climbs much easier and technical descents I wouldn't even try before possible. Really, except for high speed rocky descents, I don't even think about full suspensions. And descents on this are fun! Shifting is great coming out of a descent into a turn/climb. You can drop 3-4 gears quickily and cleanly and pick them up again snappily enough. The shocks are good enough to keep you in control, and if you weight the bike properly, the tires are perfect for the terrain down here. They would probably be terrible in muddy conditions though.

All in all this is quite a bit of bike and would be a bargain at much closer to the MSRP. at this price it is great.

Great bike, when I first Got it, I was going to return it, Because the gears were not shifting properly, and I didnt like that the shifters didnt have the gears numbered like My Diamondback, buy anyways I change the sadle and the grips and what a difference, Night and day wao, also it seems that the gears adjusted by itself. I have taken the bike for a few trail rides and is Great, lets See if it holds up.

Once you get going on this bike you can go over anything. The components are unbeatable in this price range. I am very pleased with this bike and this is a quality bike at a great price. I bought it at the Riverside store and Steve was awesome helping me pick the right size. Thumbs way up!

This time I bought the Jamis and couldn't be happier and I am a Clydesdale. 6'1 and 250. I would buy again in a heart beat another Jamis and from Jensonusa
