Ibis is known in the cycling industry for the expert craftsmanship and high-grade materials that go into the manufacturing of their bicycles. To understand how it all started, take a trip back in time to 1980. Ibis founder, Scot Nicol read an article about the new “Klunker Bike” movement in the Spring issue of CoEvolution Quarterly—a friendly hippy magazine. The seed was planted. In 1981, in a workshop in Mendocino, California, the first Ibis bicycle was made. Glassy eyed onlookers saw the bicycle and asked Scot if he could produce more. Fast forward 30 years to present-day Ibis: a renowned boutique bicycle manufacturer with humble beginnings that continues to raise the bar in the mountain bike world.
The Ibis Ripley 29 has been a long time coming. After about a half decade of R&D, Ibis has proudly released the Ripley 29er. Ibis’ goal was to create a nimble, responsive, and light 29er. Take note that these adjectives are not generally associated with 29er, thus the multiple years of R&D. The Ripley 29 is a true trail bike, one that allows you to throw on a helmet and explore the ends of the earth. Once you throw your leg over the Ibis Ripley 29, you’ll experience a new kind of cycling. A 29er rolls over obstacles easier, due to the lower approach angle.
Carry on a conversation as you and your buddies climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the Ripley 29 climbs like a young mountain goat! You’ll surely crack a smile as the wind rustles through your helmet, while you enjoy the local singletrack trails. The 70 degree head angle allows you to securely point the bike back down the mountain, and put those on a 26” wheeled bike to shame. Ibis Cycles researched what people liked in a 29er geometry, and they found mountain bikers yearned for the steering of a 26” bike, but with the advantages of the bigger wheels. The 70 degree head angle (with a 120mm travel fork) provides downhill confidence, while the 51mm fork offset gives the responsiveness that riders love.
Constructed of high quality carbon fiber, the frame is incredibly lightweight. Not only is the carbon fiber frame lightweight, but it absorbs trail shock, as well. Not to mention, the lack of weld lines looks sleek. The heart of the Ibis Ripley 29 is the dual- eccentric DW- Link Suspension. 120mm of DW- Link travel gobbles up debris on the trail, while preserving the pedaling efficiency. DW- Link suspension features excellent small bump compliance, predictable travel through the range with no walling or harsh bottoming out. The Ripley X01 build features a Fox Float CT Adjust Factory Series shock in the rear, and a Fox Float 32 CTD 120mm travel fork up front to handle bumps and sudden drops. To ensure superior maneuverability, the Ripley 29 has a tapered head tube. Internal top tube cable routing with molded carbon cable stops provide an aesthetically pleasing finish to the bicycle. The Ripley 29 is definitely a bike you’d take home to meet your mother.
The Ibis Ripley X01 is all about simple efficiency. The rock solid SRAM X01 1x11 drivetrain saves weight and simplifies the drivetrain while maintaining a wide 32t x 10-42t mountain bike gearing range. X01 is technically a step down from SRAM's premier XX1 group, but features many of the same benefits with only a small weight penalty and a few cost-conscious material choices. An E*Thirteen TRS+ 32t crank delivers plenty of pedaling power and Shimano XT hydraulic brakes give you all the braking power need to stop on a dime or modulate technical sections of the trail. Stan's ZTR Arch EX wheels provide a solid and fast spinning wheel platform and Ibis tops off the Ripley X01 build with a classy Ibis branded cockpit.

Comments about Ibis Bicycles Ibis Ripley 29 X01 Bike:
Ibis has managed to put together all the attributes you want in a trail bike into the Ripley. There's an active, yet firm pedaling platform that manages to soak up small bumps in the trail. This, in combination with it's 29" wheels, makes for an incredible climbing experience. When the trail turns downward, the Ripley holds it's own, acting more like a nimble 26" or 27.5" bike than the typical lifeless 29er. Matched up with a Sram X01 drive train and Fox CTD suspension, the Ripley will handle anything from weekend cross country races, to gnarly cross mountain epics.
Comments about Ibis Bicycles Ibis Ripley 29 X01 Bike:
This thing is the swiss army knife of 29er's. Climbs like a goat, supple suspension that soaks up the small and large, fast down the mtn. Could be used for XC racing and long distances. Truly a one-bike-for-all. Very happy w/ my Ripley.
