I often hear a tik-tik-tik sound while riding. I stop to pull out goat-heads, tacks, glass, even a nail. Then I continue on my way - no harm done. In 9K miles I have had exactly 1 flat. It was a 3/8" peice of wire; I accepted that as a worthy opponent.
They grip in rain and dry pavement well. I ride from -5°F to 105°F and the MP is great through that entire range.
The tires are on the expensive side, but they are extremely long wearing. I have included a picture of my rear tire at 9K miles. The tread has nearly worn down, but I expect to get another 3K+ out of them before the protective foam shows through.
Be warned that the bead is very stiff; it can be difficult to mount. I can mount most tires with my bare hands. I have to use tire levers to mount the MP. This intoduces a danger of tube pinch puncture, but be careful and you won't need to mount the tire again for a very long time.
PROS: Good grip in all weather, Low Maintence, Durable
CONS: Can be difficult to mount, Heavy
PROS: Fast, Reliable
Yes the 28c is heavy than nearly every other 28c but it is worth it. If you are a roadie who needs a lighter tire try the 25c it's not nearly as heavy and has all the benefits still.
PROS: Smooth ride, Durable, Flatless, Good Traction
CONS: Challenging to mount, Heavy
BEST USES: Touring, Commuting, Road
BEST USES: Casual Riding, Road Biking
They are excelent - the best touring tires we have used (and I have more than 110000 miles of liaded touring) . They roll well, are close to puncture free (picking countless goadheads and glass shards out of them with no punctures), and durable (last for about 6-10000 miles).
On the downside they are a bit heavy (but preferable to puncturs), and a bit hard to install (we use metal tire levelers - no problem).
PROS: Puncture Resistant, Durable
PROS: Easy To Install, Durable Anti Goathead, Durable
PROS: Stiff, Craftsmanship, Longevity
CONS: Not carbon neutral, Heavy
Note: I am using the 20x1.75" version on a folding touring bike on long rides over all surfaces.
PROS: Attractive Design, Durable
BEST USES: Touring, commuting
