Schwalbe Nobby Nic 26" Tire

Schwalbe Nobby Nic 26" Tire

The Schwalbe Nobby Nic 26" Tire is a fast XC racing tire that also makes itself comfortable in technical Enduro type riding. The new SnakeSkin sidewall is standard and makes it immune to cuts and blows, while Tubeless conversion brings lower rolling resistance and high reliability to the table.

  • Triple Compound technology incorporates three different rubber compounds to achieve both speed and grip
  • Uses an extremely elastic tread base for very low rolling resistance, and a stable center and extra shoulder grip for performance and cornering
  • Utilizes the super-fast chassis of the Racing Ralph

Bait and Switch
Buyers beware: the 26" 2.35 PaceStar tire is the not-so-great first generation (pre 2015) tire, not the new generation tread pattern pictured.

Given the $10 price tag, I suppose this falls into the "too good to be true" bucket. Alas, it's not worth the effort to return them, even though I would have doubled down on Hans Dampfs if I'd known.

Jenson: please update the photo or separate the old- and new-generation Nics into separate listings so more folks don't get duped into buying a mediocre tire.

Bought two Nobby Nic tires on sale and both had the sidewalls leak tubeless sealer. Schwalbe makes great tires but this is not one of them!

Great Tire
So far I've been really happy with these. Going around a really tricky high speed corner, I hit my back wheel on a sharp rock, hard enough to get a flat. Good news was the tire was totally fine and so was the rest of my bike. I have yet to test these in thick mud but on everything else (e.g. rock, loose leaves, pine straw, dirt) they've been great. No complaints!

PROS: Bite When Climbing, Grip, Speed, Puncture resistance

These are awesome!
I use these on my single speed 29er on the trails around Phoenix and they rock! The dual (or triple?) compound is perfect for this area. They're durable, light, they corner well, provide great traction... I mounted them on my Sun Charger Pro tubeless rims and they went on and sealed as easy as any tubeless tire I've encountered.

PROS: Attractive Design, Durable, Well-designed, Lightweight, Easy To Install

CONS: Costly

Great tire
I put this on the back. Lots of braking and climbing traction. The tire blew up quick in tubeless and holds air nice. I would recommend.

Is this the wire bead or fording performance model?
Shawn on Apr 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Photo is wrong, the tire we have is the one with the newer tread pattern. And yes, this is the performance model.
The Nobby Nic was updated in 2015. Is this the newer tread pattern or old stock of the previous design? The photo shows the older design, which I am not interested in.

Thanks
Ryan on May 17, 2016
The picture looks like the older Nobby Nic. Do you know if this the tire pictured, or is it the newer version of the Nobby Nic?
Ryan on Apr 16, 2016
Is the performance 2.25 able to be used with inner tubes?
Jin Y on Apr 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes. The Performance series is the lowest model level which to the best of my knowledge has to be run with tubes. If you were to get a deal on a higher level model that was tl-easy or what not you can also run with tubes and have the option of converting to tubeless later.
For this tire it states Pacestar, TL-Ready? What exactly is the TL-Ready designation.
ChazE on Mar 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: TL-Ready = Tubeless Ready designator for rims which will accept tires so designated without needing inner tubes.
People say it is a great front tire, any reason why this tire cannot be used for both front and rear wheels?
A shopper on Mar 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: My GF and I live and ride at Galbraith Mountain in Bellingham, WA. The trails surfaces are pretty diverse, changing with the seasons: wet, loamy midpack, with a healthy dose of slippery roots, rocks, and bridges and muddy slop on the side in the wet season and dry hard pack with a side of dust, damp loam and slop in the "dry" season. We ride Nobby Nics front and rear and find them to be up to the tasks. They're predictable, with good grip. I think a Hans Dampf in the rear and a Nic up front is a great combo, but I'm happy to ride Nics front and rear.

Hope that helps.
Can I run the performance 2.1 tires as tubeless or do I need to get the 2.25 TL-Easy?
dotblot on May 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: TL-Easy. Performance will be a wire bead base model to the best of my recall.
Is this tire: Item #: TI408A01 also Snakeskin?
Maikel J on Apr 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: JensonUSA lists several different varieties of Nobby Nics under the same TI408A01 item number, some with and some without Snakeskin. The Performance line tires do not include Snakeskin, and the older TL-Ready tires were available with and without Snakeskin. I believe all the newer TL-Easy tires are snakeskin, and the Double Defense (when available) include both Snakeskin (side protection) and added protection in the center tread.
hi, TL-ready and pacestar, no snakeskin? What kind of side protection the tire has? TX
antigua on Mar 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I use these tires on my older Samta Cruz blur 26", as well as my Carbon GT 27.5 , they are a very aggressive tire that holds great through the corners and limited slipping on steep up hills. For me these tires work extremely well.
I do not have a tubless set-up on my tires. Can I run these with tubes?
Lisa on Aug 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Sure. You can run any tubeless tire with tubes.
Schwalbe Nobby Nic 26" Tire 2.35", Pacestar, Tl-Ready, is it the new or tread?
Maikel J on Apr 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It appeared to be the new tread and was labeled as snakeskin.
