Serfas E-Lume 450 Headlight
Light up the world in your path with the Serfas' new line of headlights, the E-Lume 450. It was designed to exceed expectations and offer the same features people have come to love about Serfas lights. At a maximum output of 450 lumens it really packs a punch. It features a compact, lightweight aluminum body and has a water resistance rating of IPX4, making it extremely durable. They were also made to provide great performance while staying at an affordable value.
This is a nice little light. If you have any of the older True series of lights, the mount is the same so you can use those with this light. It comes with a bar mount and a usb cable, no separate 120v charger or helmet mount, hence the low price.
I use this in conjunction with a 300 lumen helmet mount light for trail riding. The E-lume has a fairly wide and even beam pattern and it lights up the trail well. It doesn't seem to have as much 'throw' down the trail as something with a more spot oriented beam pattern (like my Cateye Volt 300) Mounted on the bars, it provides a good view of the trail as well as good contrast. I run mine on the 200 lumen 'high' setting most of the time (with the helmet light on 300) and then bump it up to the 450 lumen 'overdrive' setting for fast sections. This is plenty of light for me for most situations. I mainly use my lights when I'm finishing up the last half hour of a ride in the dark so I'm not charging too many technical descents and stuff like that. If I was, I'd probably want something more powerful.
The power button changes color to indicate state of charge, which is a nice feature. Overall, I have no complaints so far. The only complaint I might have in the future is that it doesn't have a user replaceable battery. I think you need to send it in to have the battery replaced but that shouldn't be an issue for a couple of years. If you're looking for a solidly made, inexpensive light for commuting or light trail riding, take a look at this one.
The image below is the E-Lume on the high setting with my helmet light on high as well. It's not the most accurate representation of the E-Lume but it will give you sort of an idea of the beam pattern.
