Shimano BR-M395 Disc Brake

Shimano BR-M395 Disc Brake

Hydraulic disc brake performance on a budget

Shimano's M395 disc brakes are a proven, bombproof design. They're pre-bled, easy to install and inexpensive, meaning they're perfect for the beginner or price conscious cyclist. Don’t be mistaken by the price; these perform very well and are a cinch to maintain, making them some of the best bang for the buck brakes out there. Be aware that rotors and adapters are sold separately. Always use genuine Shimano brake rotors and adaptors.

Features

  • Ergonomic 2-Finger brake lever for enhanced control.
  • One way bleeding caliper make for easy maintenance.
  • Included resin pads reduce noise and heat.
  • Non-Caustic Mineral system makes for more pleasant maintenance.

Amazing brakes for this price!
Bought these for my spare bike so I would be happier to ride it if my better bike is down. My other bike has SLX. The 395's don't have that solid thunk against the rotor like the SLX but in a way I like that. I weigh 210ish lbs and the 395's stop me just as well as the SLX. They have a great feel to them, more modulation. Less like on off levers than the SLX.

The bleed setup on these is much easier than my , already easy, SLX. There's a separate screw to open and close the bleed port that is not on the nipple. Put the bleed tube on and turn a separate Allen screw. I liked this because it's more gradual than the bleed bolt with the nipple on the end. Hose doesn't fall off and it's better for bleeding by yourself. The newer SLX probably have it too but I don't know.

The only thing I did notice was a little fade on crazy steep, long hills. I don't encounter that too often but I wouldn't put these on a downhill bike. At $30 or so dollars these are a steal!

Easy to install
Took about 10 minutes. I probably could have gone faster, however I was adding other parts at the same time. Went for my ride to work, works better than the mechanical disk it replaced, I expect it to get even better as it wears in.

what the difference between this model and the M396?
wichovr6 w on Sep 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I actually have a 395 on the front and a 396 on the rear of one of my bikes. Only thing I noticed was the levers are a slightly different shade of black. Took me a while to notice. Other than that, I think it's the same exact brake.
is the back brake left or right mount?
A shopper on Jun 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Rear brake is a right hand lever.
Do these come with the lines already attached. if so what are the lengths for front and rear lines (my bike is a xxl)?
Jason L on Jun 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Its pre bleed break ready to install
Line is long enough for XXL frame
Install in a large frame FS and cut 8inches from the line for a proper fit
Are the levers plastic?
A shopper on May 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The levers are aluminum.
