These are a significant step up from all other Shimano cantilever brakes. Shoe setup is as easy as a V-brake. Rather than view the cable setup as being difficult or confusing, I see it as opening up options for strength and feel. I can set the front up for lighter action while maintaining the same lever pull as the rear.

This was my first experience setting up cantis, and I actually impressed myself in the process. In the process of tinkering to get increasingly better performance, I learned a lot about the mechanics of cantilevers. With a short investment of time, I have brakes that perform better than I ever expected from any cantilever. There is no squeal and no shudder, common curses of cantis. The arms feel plenty stiff, which concentrates the power at the pads...where it belongs. Speaking of pads, I installed koolstop salmons prior to brake installation, so I can't speak for the performance of the stock pad.

Super stopping power, almost too good when used on old gear. I have these brakes on three bikes and if I build up a Seven cycle mountain bike like I plan to the only reason I would not use these on it would be the snob factor, otherwise they could go on any level of bike.
