Very Nice Brakes

Comments about Shimano BR-T4000 V-Brake:

I installed these, both front and rear, on a older mountain bike that I was rehabbing and converting to an urban commuter. The bike originally had canti brakes, but I converted it to linear-pull with these. Assuming you have the requisite tools and knowledge, installation is simple and straight forward, and fine tuning them for your needs is also easy. They function exactly as expected and braking action is quite smooth and precise. A couple of things to keep in mind...make sure your rims are in good shape, and if you are converting from short to long-pull, you may need to new brake levers.

unexpectidly good

Comments about Shimano BR-T4000 V-Brake:

I bought these because I could not find any cantilever breaks that I liked.
well, I thought I would not like them, and I do. I haven't even had a chance to put cables on them and I can already tell that they are more powerful than my cantilevers. not only that, but they look better too.
the construction and feel aren't that bad either.
Pro tip though, if this is your first time using V-breaks, read the instructions or look up a tutorial first. I thought I could just wing it because I already knew a lot about bikes, and I bent the noodle. Those of you that have experience with this probably know why.
Though, still, I can't wait to try these out on my local trails.

I bought two set. One for my kids MTB and one for mine. They work great for both 26" and 20" wheels. Can't beat the price either.

Excellet brakes

Comments about Shimano BR-T4000 V-Brake:

I bought these to rig up an old Trek MTB I was setting up as a commuter. They have a VERY solid feel with Tektro RL520 drop bar levers. I'm going to order another set to replace some 20-year old Deore V-brakes that don't feel nearly as good as these.

Good value

Comments about Shimano BR-T4000 V-Brake:

This is a great value brake. It performs way better than the Pro Max direct pulls that came on the bike. If you take the time to set this brake up properly, it will give excellent stopping power, and pretty good feel/control. As good as a disc brake? Probably not, but if done properly, it may be close to the low end disc set ups. Make sure you clean the posts, coat with fresh grease (marine grade is a good choice), set the front of the pad slightly toed in, and use the screws on the spring adjustment in conjunction with the cable tension. If you follow that procedure, you will find that this brake meets your needs, with no bells or whistles, and excellent reliability.

Sure value

Comments about Shimano BR-T4000 V-Brake:

Your basic V-brake from the bread&butter manufacturer. Affordable, no frill, easy to install.

Yes, there are nicer looking ones around, some are even a few grams lighter, but this is by far the most V-Brake you'll get for the price.

What else could we ask for?

Can' go wrong

By Dave

from Carlsbad, CA

Comments about Shimano BR-T4000 V-Brake:

When you need to replace a v-brake you can't go wrong with these. I have an old MTB that was just so difficult to get the brakes working on. I realized the biggest problem was the tired springs on the brakes, yes these things wear out! I ordered these brakes and had a sharp looking and smooth working bracelet on the bike fully installed and adjusted in about a half hour. These do not come with cables so you will need to purchase cables but if you are at the point of replacing the brakes you likely need cables too.
