The HG94 is Shimano's new XT-level chain specifically designed to work with the Dyna-Sys 10 speed MTB drivetrain. Shimano developed Dyna-Sys with the goal of increasing rider efficiency. This means closer ratios, smoother shifts, and a more stable pedal stroke. This chain is directional for maximum shifting performance, for use with Dyna-Sys cassettes only.

I bought this thinking it was a good deal and got a new chain breaker to go with it for my first 10 speed group (SLX/XT/Zee). Installed fine just like any other chain, decently quiet when well lubed, and provides decent shifting. Over the last 100 miles its broken on me 3 times. I read some other reviews online and I am not the only one. Apparently this is one of the first generations of Shimano's 10 speed mountain bike chains and the lack of refinement shows. Do yourself a favor and get something else. I got a SRAM 1071, hopefully it'll do as well as the other SRAM chains I've had.

Have Shimano Deore cassette so thought I'd put on the HG94 chain since I got a good deal on two of them. I had a KMC that seemed OK but it now shifts smoother and I did put on the KMC MissingLink 10R that is just great because it's a snap to take the chain off.

This is a fine OEM replacement. I must admit I prefer the SRAM chains. They seem lighter and I like the connecting link (quick link?) much better than the pin on the Shimano chains.

At half off here from Jensonusa I picked up two for my bike. This chain is great and I get about a year or two out of each one. I wish Shimano had a powerlink but just get a set of extra pins and you'll be covered in the event of a trail repair.

I've been running this chain on my bike set up with Shimano XT M 780 3x10 drivetrain and I'm happy with it. I keep it lubed and use common sense when shifting (like I would with any chain) and man I'm cool
