The Shimano Deore M596 disc brakes are an excellent upgrade to your stock brakes. Shimano has made it easy by pre- bleeding the brakes. Just attach the brake and lever to your bike and pedal! The two finger lever is smooth and strong. The brake set weights in at a mere 300 grams.

Put these brakes on a Turner Burner, they work great! had to bleed them but it wasnt bad since i have connections. They work great with both 180 and 160 rotors. these are great brakes for the price.

I have used these twice both in relative simple scenarios (meaning not serious terrain) and they are incredibly effective. I was very hesitant to move to a hydraulic setup, but so far no complaints in terms of their intent, which is to stop the bike.

Upgraded an older bike that had Avid mech. disc front and rear. Huge difference in feel and modulation. Levers feel really comfy. No noise yet after 10 rides. Takes a ride or 2 to bed the pads proper. I prefer the modulation over the SLX,Xt. more progressive. Great value for hydro brakes. Used Jensons online price match. Saved me about 15 bucks.
