I bought a few pairs of these as OEM last year and they have been great. They shift well, have dual-release and just plain work. 9 speed seems to have increased in price with 10 speed so prevalent, but I'm a creature of habbit and prefer a 9 speed chain over a 10.

These shifters are a great value -- I used them for years before switching to SRAM, which was a personal preference, not a comment on their quality.(I prefer the "precision" feeling of SRAM's 1:1 pull ratio and the larger trigger levers.) Two-way release is nice.
They shift well and are largely trouble free. Not blingy, but a great value.

I built a new mountain/trail bike this winter around a Rocky Mountain frame, Marzocchi fork, Easton wheelset, Avid disk brakes and Shimano XT power train. These shifters are a great complement to the Shimano XT derailleures, chain, cassette and crank/chainwheel. First rides were flawless and I am pleased with the solid performance of the shifting. Only issue I had was with the adjustment instruction sheet which was very generic and un-detailed.

No nonsense trigger shifters that just work. You can use your thumb to press down on the upper or lower shifter levers (not sure what they call this) but I'm just so used to pressing the top with my finger and lower with my thumb, that feature means nothing to me. I previously used XT on my old bike and I has happy with them. I'm happy to report that I feel no real difference btwn the old XT shifters and these Deore trigger shifters. They just work. I'd recommend if you just need and used to classic trigger style shifters. But there is a bit of movement for the bottom shifter lever before it actually starts shifting when you push it. Would be a little better if that distance was shorter. But I'll give it 4 overall.
