This is a traditionally-sprung rear derailleur designed to complement standard trigger or twist shifters. Shimano shifting technology keeps your drivetrain shifting nice and smooth.
  • 9 Speed compatible (works just dandy with 7 or 8, or even Shimano Road 10 speed as well)
  • Long (SGS) Cage for usage with triple cranks. (Will work with double or single ring drivetrains as well)
  • Sturdy Alloy Construction
  • Approximate weight claimed 275 grams
  • Best matched with Shimano Rapidfire trigger shifters, SRAM Rocket or Attack (Shimano-compatible) twist or trigger shifters
  • Will not work with SRAM ESP 1:1 shifters (SRAM x.0, x.9, x.7, etc). It will work with SRAM shifters specifically designed for use with Shimano derailleurs, such as their Attack or Rocket models)

Please Note: This is marked an OE Item because it lacks original packaging. The item has never been mounted.

Just ok

It's a nine speed that claims its good for 7 and 8 too. Works but not as well as old one designed for 7 speed

Comments about Shimano LX M581 Rear Derailleur:

I installed this LX mountain derailleur on my gravel grinding/long distance recreational road bike with an 11-34 cassette, compact crank and down-tube shifters. It works great and it's silver rather than black or silver/black. It's good looking, dependable and inexpensive, what more can I ask?

Inexpensive yet precise shifting rear mechanism. Works well and is easy to set up, easy to replace if it gets ripped off or slammed too.

        • Mountain Biking

Comments about Shimano LX M581 Rear Derailleur:

Doesn't shift well at all in the middle gears. No amount of adjustment will get this thing to work as you would expect. It just will not shift up and down in the middle gears as it should.

If you are ordering off this site you most likely know that Shimano does not make bad parts, at least I have yet to experience one. This rear d was for my touring/commuter bike and has worked well so far.
