Zee is tuned specifically for 1x10 applications, although narrow range 2x10 applications will also work with this derailleur so long as extreme gear combinations are not used. The Zee derailleur is offered in two short cage (SS) configurations: DH and FR. The DH derailleur has a specific actuation arc that will closely follow closely spaced DH ratio cassettes, up to 11-28T. The FR version is designed for riders who hit more varied terrain, and want to go uphill as well as downhill, featuring capacity up to 11-36T cassettes.
Feature-packed, and surprisingly light, the Zee rear derailleur is designed specifically for hard gravity riders on a budget, because everyone, not just the pros, should be able to crush lines.

Comments about Shimano M640 Zee Rear Derailleur:
yes the rumors are true. This is a great derailleur. I have ridden one day at whistler with it and i can't believe the the difference the clutch makes compared to my last years saint derailleur. no chain slap. quiet, precise shifting. And pretty darn light to boot.
the best part? it is dirt cheap.

Comments about Shimano M640 Zee Rear Derailleur:
Replaced my X9 and went to single 32T. Zee was awesome out the gate. Trails in Alafia are very rooty and technical. Zee held up superbly! Cam was adjusted for tighter action. May have worked loose after a couple of rides but chain bairly moved. XTR for trail is overkill!

Comments about Shimano M640 Zee Rear Derailleur:
This is by far the best rear derailluer I've used, far superior to the slx i had before it. The clutch technology is a nice feature and should be a good improvement. I thought the clutch would make shifting more difficult but i hardly notice it, keeps it mice and quite. I am using this with a 1x10 with a 11-36t cassette and it works fantastic. I went with the slx shifter instead of the zee because i am using this for trail riding and i don't need the ruggedness of the zee.

Happy with my choice of a Shimano Zee shifter and rear derailleur for a 1x10 setup. The system works really well, haven't missed my 2x9 at all.

Comments about Shimano M640 Zee Rear Derailleur:
Not sure if I set this up correctly, but if I go into the highest gear (smallest cog) I can't shift out of it. The chain catches on the c-clip on the derailer pivot.
Otherwise Shifts fast and precise and the clutch mechanism keeps the chain on and everything quiet.

Comments about Shimano M640 Zee Rear Derailleur:
I have been riding a 1x9 setup on my Hardtail 29er MTB. The Zee derailuer has eliminated chainslap and losing the chain off the front ring. I have taken off the chain guide and gone to just a bash guard now...Love the tension settings available on the clutch...very sturdy!
Comments about Shimano M640 Zee Rear Derailleur:
Got this derailleur not to long ago for my trail 1x10 hard-tail and it has been working flawlessly. This is essentially an slx derailleur in short cage.
I have it set up with the saint shifter which is also fantastic.
The clutch has taken away all the chain slap which was annoying when it hit my carbon frame.
