Comments about Shimano MTB Brake Cable/Housing Kit:
A very standard brake cable kit - a cinch to use. No need to buy something more costly. It's Shimano so you can trust it.
Comments about Shimano MTB Brake Cable/Housing Kit:
Alright, this is just a bad product. It does have all the components you need to run your own brake lines, but unless you have an engineering spirit, this isn't going to work for you.
First off, these are not made for Shimano Disc Brakes. I'm guessing by "standard brake" they mean V-brake, but the title is misleading. I don't see how they could possibly work for V-brakes out of the box without modification either. If you want to use them for disc brakes, you'll have to cut off one of the brake-side end joints that are WELDED on. The handle-side end joints are also welded on and do fit in Shimano brake handles.
Second (and this is for both V-brakes and disc brakes), they provide brake line housing, but…the frickin brake line end joints are welded on, so there's no possible way to get the brake line into the housing without cutting/sawing off one of the end joints, leaving a nasty frayed end that I couldn't get into the housing or the extra end caps they provided anyway.
Poor design and marketing even if they're for V-brakes. As is true with almost all bike parts, if you spend more money, you'll get every penny's worth out of more expensive parts. This isn't the first time I've been burned by Shimano's cheap stuff.
I bought this for my 6 year-old IBEX that's slowly needing every Shimano part replaced. I just needed one new front brake line, and in the end, all I used was one brake line with the brake-side end joint removed. Pretty nasty looking. It will work for now but will probably buy a better product from a different company soon.
Comments about Shimano MTB Brake Cable/Housing Kit:
This is everything you need for brake cabling a bike. I put this on my cross-country mountain bike and it works great. It has more than enough housing, but because housing has a steel sheath running down the length of it, you should have a set of either very sharp cable cutters with straight blades, or cutters with curved surfaces that are made for cutting housing. I'm not sure if these are galvanized or stainless steel, but a great value nonetheless.

Merchant response: Virtually all bicycle brake cables are "double ended". They are specifically designed so that you cut off the end you don't need when cutting the cable to size.
