      I used this with 700 series 10 spd shifters and FCR 700 compact crank. The setup works flawlessly with any brand of 10 spd chain. Never mis shifts and never needs fiddling around to trim cage rub noise in cross gears.

      Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

      I started with the shifters and some standard road derailleurs. When testing on the bench, I quickly realized that the shifters pulled too much cable for my standard front derailleur. After doing my homework, realized these shifters require this mission specific derailleur. Some Internet forum members state that it's possible to use an mtb front derailleur as a substitute. I tried too, but the ones I had didn't have the combination of bottom pull cabling and/or mechanism interference with the rear tire.This derailleur and shifter combination shifts nicely, as expected from upper-midgrade Shimano componentry.
