With the help of Current Men's Downhill World Champion Gee Atherton, Shimano's new line up of gravity oriented shoes have been fine-tuned, dialed in, and are itching to get out on your local trail. The clipless compatible AM9 takes on the steep terrain with the help of a newly designed, pedal channel. Making it easy to disengage when needed and get back into the pedals easily and in time for the next feature. The AM9's midsole gets a generous amount of EVA foam and a revised shank plate which strikes the balance between pedaling efficiency, hike-ability, and pedal feel. Additional coverage and protection is provided by an armored lace shield.
Pedal Channel provides more stable platform between shoe and pedal when not clipped in
Traction tread on toe & heel enhances grip.
EVA Foam construction reduces shoe weight down to under 800g in size 40
Asymmetrically raised padded ankle collar and sidewall sole protect your foot
Armored Lace shield provides an extra layer of protection from debris
Shoe lace under shield with additional strap with ring provides a secure foot hold with even tension
"We've been testing the AM9 this season and it's the best shoe I've ever worn for downhill. Me, Rachel and Dan all had a hand in developing the shoe and it's great to see how our feedback has been integrated. We asked for better grip, better protection and less weight. Shimano definitely delivered!"- Gee Atherton, current Downhill World Champion
Great all terrain shoe. Stiff enough, but comfortable enough to walk when you're off the bike. Only dislike was the flap across the laces. I removed the flap (didn't care for the look), but there is also still a velcro strap to secure the laces. Very happy with the purchase otherwise.
Great shoe, very comfortable and offers solid protection.
Used these shoes on downhill courses in PA (blue mountain) and on some trials in Colorado (hall ranch and walker ranch). Even with downhill style protection the shoes weren't overly hot during a summer ride...also they were very comfortable.
I had using this for about 2 year and I ride 3 to 4 times per week about 6 to 9 miles and use crank brother pedals (candy and mallet, depending on the type of trails) and they work really good, even in hot days (and I leave in Mexico where in summer is really hot) good support, nice fit, and really confort to use even if you need to walk for a wile..
I love this shoe. I've had the older black/White shoe a couple of years back but the design is basically the same ( why change something that is already tried and true?). The materials are good as is quality. It is easy to get into ( laces & velcro) and it secures your feet like a good Mountain bike shoe should. It is very simple to mount your choice of clips onto the sole. For me it was CrankBrothers. Bought it When Jensen put it on sale so the timing was perfect. I am very pleased with this purchase and customer service is just awesome. Shipping was crazy fast!
Got this shoes on sale, and they are worth every penny> didn't give them a perfect score, because where I live its wet 6 month of the year and the open design for the clipless mount lets in a little bit of mud. Only very liquid mud mind you.
Great lightweight upgrade from previous version. Excellent construction, style and materials appear to be high quality. Really a great in between style, rigid enough to give you the support you need while racing, but also a comfy chill mode. Wish the tongue was a touch longer to cover give a little more cover over top strap
Rigid, Uncomfortable, Not In Same Zip Code As Five Ten
I bought these as a replacement for my worn-out Mavic's, and having five ten flats, I planned on these being in the same ballpark as far as comfort is concerned. Unfortunately they're not even close. The sole feels like plywood, and you can feel your cleats poking through. My advice is, if you're looking for a pair of DH clipless shoes, go five ten.
Stiffer than expected - A Great hybrid shoe, but not comfy
Delivery was a dissapointment. Jenson has a terrible shipping ETA calculator that is never correct. I would have paid extra to have them earlier, but by the time they know what the actual delivery date is from the shipper it's too late to change it.
