Shimano SH-M088 Mountain SPD Shoes

If your feet are sloshing around, if there is a hole on the side of your shoe in which your toe is sticking out of, if your cycling shoes smell like the city dump, it’s time to replace them. The Shimano Sh-M088 has high end features with an entry level price tag. The M088 features dual off-set straps and ratcheting buckle. The offset ensures that your feet are free of pressure spots, even during long rides. The ratcheting buckle micro- adjusts to get the perfect fit. The wide toe box provides a comfortable amount of room for feet to expand during a long rigorous ride.

Comments about Shimano SH-M088 Mountain SPD Shoes:

These are great shoes! I've been riding carbon soled shoes and wanted something with better walkability and traction for hike-a-bike sections. The sole is stiff for good power transfer yet great to walk in. The rubber sole has great traction on rocks and roots. I wear size 11 shoes and the 46 (11.2) fit perfect. I much prefer these over my carbon soled shoes. I use these shoes for mountain biking, commuting, and mtb racing. I'm very impressed with these shoes. I may buy another pair as a back-up. I cannot comment on durability since I have only had them for about a month now. They look like a durable shoe.

Comments about Shimano SH-M088 Mountain SPD Shoes:

Bought these for my first set of Clipless shoes and they are as adverstised. They are very comfortable, soles are nice and stiff and I am really glad I opted for this version with the ratcheting closure. Adjusting velcro can be a pain in the butt and being able to tighten the shoe in small increments is really nice. Also no concern with them cloggin up with mud. I have had several rides on them and am totally sold on clipless. Paired them with the cheap shimano 520's and couldn't be happier

Comments about Shimano SH-M088 Mountain SPD Shoes:

These are replacing a pair of M075s that I've had for several years. The M088s are comfortable right out of the box and well ventilated, but not overly so. The M075s let in a lot of trail dust. The M088s do not. The ratcheting buckles are a welcome upgrade. Overall, great features and quality without a burdensome price.

Comments about Shimano SH-M088 Mountain SPD Shoes:

I have ridden about 2.5 seasons on these and they look a bit beat up, but they should probably last another. I don't really notice them during a ride and i think that is a good thing, they have never been hot or uncomfortable. I wear a 10.5 street shoe and the 45 is a perfect fit. A great value trail shoe.

Comments about Shimano SH-M088 Mountain SPD Shoes:

As always, Shimano offers a great mountain biking shoe at an exceptional value. They have never let me down in terms of comfort, quality, and longevity. I did notice that this particular shoe is a tad bit shorter than all the other pairs of Shimano shoes I've owned over the years (43 is what I wear). I changed out the foot bed, so they are going to work just fine. You may consider going one size longer on this particular model.

I've not had these shoes for very long but so far they're doing a good job. Buying shoes online can be tricky but I was pleased at how well they fit me. I wear a size 10 street shoe and so selected the size 44 riding shoe. Fit me perfectly with a med ankle sock.

I wear a size 16 and occasionally a 15 US. I ordered these in a 52, and may have been able to get a 51. I like thicker socks when riding anyway, so it should be fine. The shoes seem breathable enough, and can shed some water. The trails are pretty wet from the thaw here.

Comments about Shimano SH-M088 Mountain SPD Shoes:

These are my second pair of MTB shoes from Shimano. My previous pair were the Shimano SH-M086L and they lasted 3 years. In comparison, the new M088 seems lighter while maintaining the same level of quality. Fit and width is true to size; toe-box is roomy. It took a couple of rides to break them in, but after that the shoes fit well and molded to my feet. Note that this model does not have removable toe-spikes. I never needed them for the trails I ride, but keep that in mind if you're looking for that feature.

I'm a casual rider and these are my first bike specific shoes. The fit was a bit surprising since there are always people saying the shoes don't fit exact, for me they seem dead on. I was also surprised at how comfortable they are out of the box. The ratchet for the top lace point is also a nice feature, but I kept over-tightening until I got the feel for it. My only fault is the use of stickers to seal the inside of the shoe. I'm still adjusting the cleats and the sticker adheres to the screw plates making adjustment hard. If you get these and need to adjust the plates to find your right cleat fit, wait to put the stickers in.

This is my first experience with MTB shoes and I love them. I am a size 14-15, and ordered these in a size 51 which fits perfectly. Ratcheting feature is great for getting a custom fit, and the shoes quickly and easily clip into and out of my shimano SPD pedals. Having these shoes makes mountain biking about twice as fun (and it was pretty fun before) because you can stay in the saddle and hammer through trails and features that previously you would have to walk the bike around.
