I shopped for a shoe for a while. I've had several brands before, but never owned a Shimano shoe. This is my first pair and I am fairly impressed. For the price that Jenson sells this shoe, it is definitely worth it. I've put plenty of miles on the shoes already and I tend to forget that I have clipless shoes on after I get to my destination and start walking around. This is a good feeling as they are comfortable enough to walk around in the city as well as trails. I also feel that the shoe is well ventilated. Some shoes I've owned have relied heavily on mesh and my feet would get too dry or cold, however these I haven't had a problem with. I'm sure I'll have a better opinion when the winter months come. In any case, this shoe compares to more expensive leather or race shoes. Then again, I err in the side of comfort. They are not as heavy as I was lead to believe in people's reviews. I love them and that's all that matters.

I purchased these shoes to replace an old pair of SIDIs and am dissapointed with their durability. After 5 rides total, chunks of the sole are missing and there are several deep gouges that will likely lead to more missing chunks. The shoes are very comfortable but the sole is too soft for rocky environments. These would be ideal for commuting or smooth terrain trails. I would not recommend these to a friend.

Comments about Shimano SH-M162 SPD Shoes:

So in New Balance shoes I just moved up to a 124E (super wide) 'cause I like my toes to have breathing room. In Shimano I have always worn 46 (two pairs of MO88s), and my last Nike spd shoes were 46, but they were all using velcro straps. With these shoes, it has the ratchet at the top, which is super awesome, but my sweet spot is with the ratchet cranked to the tightest setting and I worry that fabric stretch might leave me with slack one day... But then, with winter coming on, I have lots of room for my thick socks... Maybe a 45 would have been the perfect size. Next time. Otherwise, these shoes are awesome. I immediately felt more efficient and powerful my first ride out. Every time I put these on I get a smile on my face knowing that the power is going straight to the cranks.

awesome shows - but the 4th ride out and the leather ripped from the shoe - contact Jenson in hopes they make it right.

Also, 2nd time out both cleats came off shoes - I have been tightening them before every ride now

Comments about Shimano SH-M162 SPD Shoes:

I probably need a half size smaller, but that was expected. For the cost, I couldn't ask for better shoes. They are comfortable to ride in and tighten down nicely. Due to the size, putting thick socks on for winter rides shouldn't be a problem.

The only issue is that I have really flat feet and on long DH runs the sole hurts my foot a little, but I don't think that's necessarily a design/manufacturing issue.

I moumountain bike one or two times a week. These have been great shoes. I use XT 780 pedals and the pair works great. I rides single track trails and the shoes have survived a crash well. I love the adjustment buckle, my first shoe with it. Totally worth it. My only complaint is that they are a little narrow near the ball of my foot. However, I only notice it while walking. They feel great when riding.

Bought these shoes to use daily on my commute. They are extremely comfortable and easy to walk in. They also look a little better than most cycling shoes so you don't get the weird looks from people that have never seen cycling shoes before. All in all these are excellent shoes. Very pleased with my purchase!

Comments about Shimano SH-M162 SPD Shoes:

Typical Shimano shoes very overbuilt, slightly large and very firm. These aren't the stiffest shoes around nor are they the lightest. They are good looking shoes that are easy to setup because of segment marking on the outsole. I'm sure they will also be quite durable like all of my Shimano shoes have been.
buckle is durable and easy to adjust on the fly. The buckle isn't the easiest to loosen on the fly, but with a little practice it can become second nature.
I would not use these for extremely long rides because you will feel the flex when absorbing bumps standing for long periods of time. Your feet feel the strain after a while.
