Shimano SH-MT34 SPD MTB Shoes

Shimano MT34 SPD MTB Shoes

The Shimano MT34 transcends the bounds a typical cycling shoe with it's half sneaker, half performance SPD shoe design. Just as comfortable off the bike as they are while riding, the MT34 is meant to accomodate a variety of riding styles. The MT34 is perfect for touring and non-competitive riding and gives you the mobility to get off the bike and explore on foot wihout losing traction or balance. The recessed cleat design provides a flat walking surface and eliminates the awkward waddle that accompanies walking in a standard cycling shoe and a glass fiber reinforced polyamide shank plate ensures optimum rigidity when connected to the pedals. Made to go anywhere, the Shimano MT34 is ready for the journey ahead!

Excellent, perfect size, everyday use
I used the cm size from shimano webpage to order it since you never can be sure enough about EU/US charts. I ordered the EU 44 / US 9.7 / 27.8cm (my casual shoes size are 27.3cm) and from the very first moment they felt great, easy to adjust, comes with the shimano sticker to prevent water from pumping in from below and a pair of cleats. Excellent quality, design, even the ties are nice. 10/10

good price/quatily product
great stiffness, comfortable at ride and during acceleration, but not recommendable to use in very wet conditions (light rain inclusive). The shoe tongue absorbs tons of water and the shoes get full of water in minutes

Great "in-between" shoe
I bought these shoes primarily for commuting and wanted something I could also comfortably wear once off the bike if necessary. However I also wanted something that would work reasonably well on the trail if desired. These seem to be the perfect shoe. Other commuter shoes have too flat of a sole and no stiffness. These have some lugs to them and good stiffness, but not as much as a full-on mtn bike shoe. The color is a bit much, but oh well. I also like the standard lacing better than the MT44. They just didn't look as trustworthy. And the blue material on these looked more durable than the plastic honeycomb stuff on the surface of the MT44. Plus I saved some money buying these instead. Hopefully they continue to hold up well.

Awesome bike touring shoe
These are the perfect bike touring shoes. I have had them for 3 weeks now and have put in about 300 miles on them including a few rides of 3+ hours/50+ miles. They were a bit stiff feeling out of the box but after about 100 miles of break in they are incredibly comfy!

The biggest pro is that you cannot feel the cleat when you are walking, it is well recessed and Shimano has added a bit of rubber on the sole on each side of the cleat that extends down and makes it so the cleat does not touch ground at all. I have been searching for a long time and this is the first shoe I've found where that is the case and makes them perfect for bike touring where you are walking a lot in your bike shoes.

They ride well enough, not as stiff a sole as my Sidi's or other Shimano MTB shoes but honestly don't seem to make me noticeably slower or make my feet hurt or get hot spots on long rides.

Fitwise I normally cannot use Shimano shoes because I have a very wide foot and they don't offer wide sizes but they use a wider last for their touring shoes and it's perfect for me. It is definitely wider and higher volume than their other shoes so it may not work for some people with narrow, low volume feet. Lengthwise fit is spot on.

The elastic for tucking in the laces so they don't get caught up in the drivetrain is well thought out and actually works.

Color a bit too Euro flashy for me but I guess I can live with that. All in all a fantastic shoe for its particular niche.

Great option for doble purpose cleats.
This are great on the bike, and confortable to walk around. Not for hiking or running.
I only notice a bit of grinding the concrete with the attached cleats if you don't adjustment properly.

Comfortable Touring Shoes
I bought these shoes to wear on my daily commute and also to go touring on. They are quite comfortable and I've occasionally wear them all day at work with no problem. The cleats do not scratch floor, however they do make a terrible scratching sound on pavement and concrete. They are true to size; I usually wear a men 10 and ordered a 45. They are a tad big after broken in, but still comfortable; I would recommend trying two sizes if your shoe size runs in the middle of the sizing chart like mine do.

NOT Comfortable
I ride trails and wanted a shoe I could walk in. This shoe fits terrible. The ankles are cut too high and they rub the bottom of your ankle bones. Only the tongue is made of fabric and can breathe. The rest of the shoe is plastic with blue nylon glued on top. Your feet get very hot and sweaty.

PROS: Love the colors

CONS: Does Not Breathe, Very Inflexible

I'm looking for lighter MTB shoes. Is the weight of MT34 information correct? Although I checked Shimano official website, the information is same as yours but compare with another similar model, MT44, the MT34 is 100g lighter while both are under same sole and similar design. It will be great if you could measure the actual weight to confirm it.
