The entry-level offering in Shimano’s XC-Racing family of shoes, the SH-XC51 boasts Shimano quality performance and legacy at a price that will leave enough coin in your pocket to treat your bike to something nice.
The SH-XC51's tough synthetic leather upper construction with low-profile armor panels offer great protection and excellent durability that will keep you pedaling through all the twists and turns of the trail. Not to be mistaken for your run of the mill cheap cycling shoe, the Shimano SH-XC51 is built upon Shimano's proven Dynalast sytem. With Dynalast, the toe-spring section is optimized to promote a smoother, more energy-efficient upstroke by reducing the loss of power that occurs during the backspin direction of a pedal stroke. Once it’s time to push back through the stroke, the lightweight carbon fiber composite sole provides a stiff platform that converts that saved energy in power and acceleration. This means that the whole pedal rotation serves as a cycle to produce snappier output and prolonged endurance.
The Shimano SH-XC51 is perfect for cyclists looking to purchase their first performance oriented cycling shoe or for experienced cyclists who want exceptional performance but like a little more money in their pocket. Wherever you are in your cycling journey, the Shimano SH-XC51 is ready to join in on the fun.
Tough synthetic leather upper construction
Cross X Strap is optimized for relieving tension on top of foot during push-off
Shimano Dynalast technology
Mud-shedding polyurethane lugs with low-profile spikes
Glass-fiber reinforced polyamide sole with optional spike mount
Wore these for a pretty brutal season of Xc racing and they held up well. Carbon sole adds a considerable amount of stiffness over a cheaper shoe. You can really feel every watt being transferred in these. Only downsides are they get slightly bigger over time as intense peddling will stretch them out (that happens with all MTB shoes). Also because they're so tight and stiff, any aggressive riding in these will be slightly more uncomfortable then as opposed to a more neutral MTB shoe.
