Comments about Shimano Saint Chainring Bashguard:
I had this up against 4 other bashguards. Some were nicer, some seemed stronger. But the Shimano won my test because of the slightly beveled chain-side which allows for more precise shifting on my Deore XT crankset - it basically allows for the front derailleur to flex the chain just enough to get it smoothly on the chain. The others were nearly flat up against the chain and were getting rubbed by the chain.
More on the design: It's thick but it is not a solid peice of plastic. If you were to see it from the back you would notice that it has a scaffold-like structure. In my opinion this was done to keep it light and yet give it the strength to take some abuse.

Comments about Shimano Saint Chainring Bashguard:
I got this to go on a singlespeed conversion I was building from parts I had in the shop. It's light and cheap, but I didn't realize it needs special inserts to install. The bolt holes are larger than standard, so you can't use regular chainring bolts without hard to find large diameter spacers, or else you need the Saint bolt kit which includes them. The kit is more than the bashguard itself.

Comments about Shimano Saint Chainring Bashguard:
Seemed like a good fit for my saint crank but it requires special hardware. The hardware is twice the price of the plastic guard. So I would look for a real guard for less money and less the hassle of special hardware. Should make a good Frisbee
Comments about Shimano Saint Chainring Bashguard:
Beware that this is more of a chain guard and not really a bashguard. I bought this expecting an aluminum bash guard that would take a hit such as sliding over a downed tree, but this is a lightweight plastic cover.
This is probably fine for protecting your leg from the chain ring, but is not strong enough to replace your outer chain ring.
Comments about Shimano Saint Chainring Bashguard:
After my wife slipped a pedal and tore up the back of her leg on the big ring, I bought two of these. One for my wife and one for my oldest daughter. They have been working fine. You'll need to get some longer chainring bolts to mount it up, but what do expect for $10
Comments about Shimano Saint Chainring Bashguard:
Works great for its intended purposes, not as strong as some other bash guards, but a hell of alot lighter! Beware when buying, as you need either the saint chainring bolt kit or some 1mm chainring spacers as the mounting holes are the same diameter as the outer diameter of normal chainring bolts!
