Works great
Makes it easy to disassemble SPD pedals for cleaning and re-lubing. Most pedals come apart easy using tool by hand but some are tough and require a little more force. The tool has built in flats for a wrench so you can easily remove the tight ones. Tool is made of plastic but holds up very well.

Essential tool
Well, you need it to service certain Shimano pedals (most of the lower end clipless models, road and mountain). In a word, it works. Simple, cheap construction, and it mates flawlessly with the knurls on the axle sleeve, as is expected. Very helpfully, the tool is marked which way it needs to be turned to remove the axle for the respective pedal.

While there are wrench flats (and you can certainly use them to make the job easier) if you find that you really need to use a lot of leverage, stop, and use some penetrating fluid shot down the sleeve, as it is only made of plastic, and is quite likely you will shear the top off, ruining the pedals.

This is needed for servicing the Vector pedals. A tool is provided with the upgrade kit, but I wanted an extra one.

Essential to service m520 m530 pedals
This tool is priced well, easy to use, and the directions are printed directly on the tool. I wish it was easier to use wrench flats or an adjustable wrench. I settled on using large channel locks as I didn't have the bottom bracket tool this tool is designed to be mated to.

If you service your pedals don't forget to adjust the bearings using 7mm and 3mm wrenches I believe.

Does the job
I bought this tool to fit my new shimano axle which I also purchased from Jenson. Although it is possible to remove and fit the axle with adjustable pliers, this specific tool makes the job much more straightforward and is unlikely to mark or damage the axle fitting in the process.
