This economical replacement rear derailleur will provide index ("click") shifting compatibility with Shimano or SRAM 6 or 7 speed shifters, and will also work with older 5 speed shifters in friction mode.
  • Light action design
  • Handles up to a 34 tooth largest cog
Two mounting versions are available:
  • "BOLT-ON, FOR FRAMES W/ DERAILLEUR HANGER" is for frames that have a threaded derailleur hanger to accept the rear derailleur. Such frames usually have a quick-release rear wheel
  • "W/HANGER, FOR FRAMES WITH NO HANGER" is for frames that do not have a threaded derailleur hanger; the hanger is part of the rear derailleur and is held in place by the rear wheel - typically a nutted axle type found on less expensive "Mart" bicycles

I use these to replace the stock der on "Mart" type bikes, which is usually a very poor performing unit. In the right version, this will bolt right in place of the stocker and be a easy upgrade.. they definitely will improve shifting. I suggest pairing this with a better index shifter and maybe a fresh freewheel.

I used this to replace the OEM rear derailleur on my son's Specialized Hotrock 6-speed that had one too many tumbles onto the sidewalk. Fitment was fine but the cage hangs kind of low for a 20" wheeled bike.

PS, if your kid is riding a geared bike - make sure you install one of those derailleur guards.

Comments about Shimano Tourney TX55 Rear Derailleur:

Works really well as a replacement. I have a 2000 schwinn sidewinder with more than 20,000 miles and have gone through many derailleurs but this seems to be the best. It is simple to adjust and accurate.
