I've bought 3 of these UN55 units, and on two of them the aluminum cap appears to be loose on the cartridge, by about .020". I made a plastic spacer to take up the play. On the third unit, the cap seems to fit neatly. Possibly these were packed with the wrong cap?

For my trusty, old year round commuting bike this bottom bracket is a great buy, especially if you find one on sale. You get Shimano quality, easy replacement and a budget price. Square taper cranks still are out there so I may buy a few more.

My Specialized Rockhopper had several crank creaks and pops so I knew it was time for a bottom bracket. Got this one from Jenson and was surprisingly easy to put in. Bike works great now, quiet in the woods. :)

I have Panasonic bike from 1982 and it is 68mm x 124.7mm do I go down to the 122.5mm or up to the 127mm on the bottom bracket?

                        • A:

Depends on your chainline. If you go down in size, your chainline will move inbound by 1.1mm (124.7-122.5/2). If you go up in size your chainline will move out by 1.15mm (127-124.7/2).
