Shimano Ultegra FC-6800 11-SPD Crankset

Shimano Ultegra 6800 11 Speed Crankset

In the wake of the success of the 11 Speed Dura Ace 9000 group, Shimano has recently revealed that the 11 Speed sensation was moving down the line to the more affordable Ultegra 6800 group. This race inspired group is super fast, reliable, and above all… smooth. The most anticipated and crown jewel of the new 11-speed group is the Dura-Ace proven 4 arm Ultegra 6800 Crankset. The highlighted 4 arm spider design allows chain rings to be offered in standard double, compact double, and cyclocross specific 36/46T options all on the same crank. Possibly the best part of the new Ultegra 6800 crankset is that the 4 arm design enables cross compatibility with Dura Ace 9000. You can now mix and match components depending on your price point and intentions. For example, maybe you own a Dura Ace 9000 standard double for criteriums, but you'd perfer a compact double for that upcoming climbing-intensive century. No need to empty your savings on another Dura Ace 9000 crankset, the Ultegra 6800 crankset is here to resue your wallet. The new 6800 crankset is 26 grams lighter than the previous Ultegra 6700 crankset! Shimano has hit it out of the ballpark once again!

Best CX crankset on the market
I went ahead and ordered the crankset before they were avalible, and had no eta on delivery. I was very happy with the constant updates, a phone call, and finally shipping notice that I received when it was sent out.

Love this crankset
Lovin' my Ultegra cranks. Light, stiff, and shift just as good as Dura Ace. Sure, they ain't as light nor as pretty as Dura Ace, but for the person who really thrashes their bike (e.g. actually rides it the way it's mean to be ridden) Ultegra is a godsend because I don't have to clean the dang thing or check for scratches after every ride.

Can be run with 10 or 11 speed drivetrains just fine, although I experienced some uneven wear after moving the crank from 10sp Ultegra 6700 drivetrain to 11sp 6800 drivetrain. Either the rings just wore out over time or the 10 speed chain wears the rings differently than the 11 speed chain (unlikely). While it was on the 10sp rig I ran a 53/36T combo which was kind of fun. It didn't shift well with the 11sp front derailleur so I went back up to the 39T. All in all a super solid upgrade and way worth it over the 105 5800 Cranks. Those things are bricks with not so great chainrings.

Solid crankset
I just installed this crank together with the Dura Ace BB and it just fits perfect, very easy to install!

Riding wise just did only a small 100 miles yet but very very satisfied with the results so far. Nice design, light and great stiffness.

Great product at a great price with great service!
I was going to buy the prior model at a higher price, but the gear expert explained that this newer model is compatible with my drivetrain at a lower cost and lower weight. Now that's great service!

Heavier, but worth it.
Excellent upgrade from my previous crankset. It is heavier than the SL-K cranks being replaced, but worth it. Noticeable difference in shifting quality, as well as chainring stiffness. Previous Cannondale chainrings flexed visibly when pushing hard. The ultegra chainrings are rock solid during the same efforts. Shifting was good on the old chainrings, but is better with the ultegra. Of course, great price as always with jenson.

Will this work with 10 spd Shimano Rear Gears
Dave on Oct 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes.
You have to use a 10 speed chain.
Also you may have to do some minor adjustments to your front derailleur due to the slightly narrower teeth on the chainrings.
Front chainrings will take most any size chain up to their speed.
You can not use an 11 speed chain on a 10 speed cassette. The teeth on the cassette are too wide.
Or a ten speed chain on an 11 speed cassette. The chain is to wide to properly fit in between the cogs.
I really like my cranks.
Hope this helps.
