Shimano XT BR-M785B Disc Brake

Shimano XT M785B Hydraulic Disc Brake

Riding comfortably at high speeds requires an unconscious, intuitive confidence in your machine. It requires knowing that whatever conditions you come across your brakes will be ready and able to deliver reliable control in any situation. Say hello to XT Brakes, and say goodbye to compromise. The integration of Servo-Wave brake-boosting technology into XT brakes delivers gobs of lightweight stopping power.

With 22mm ceramic pistons to increase power, reduce vibrations and shed performance-sapping heat, coupled with innovative IceTech aluminum-core rotors (sold separately) to even further keep heat buildup at bay, these all-new brakes maintain cool, quiet performance under fire

  • Servo wave levers with tool free stroke and position adjustment
  • All Shimano pre-bled brakes come with hose insert, and olive for cutting and resizing the hose to the proper length
  • I-spec shift lever compatible
  • 2-finger brake lever
  • One-way bleeding caliper and hinged lever clamp for easy installation and maintenance
  • Opposed ceramic 2-piston design helps absorb rotor heat and vibration
  • High rigidity caliper for strong braking with minimal weight
  • +25% power increase over BR-M975
  • Hub/Brake Compatibility: 6-Bolt Disc/Center-Lock Disc
  • Rotor and adaptor not included
  • Caliper Type: 74mm Post Mount
  • Hydraulic Hose Length: 1000mm (front), 1700mm (rear)

  • 2011-2013 model year I-spec shifters are not directly compatible with BL-M785-B levers and will require ISMSL78BP I-spec conversion kit

These brakes work reliably and quietly. The modulation is great. I'm 225 lbs, took them to Sedona and there was no fade or lack of power. Can't come up with any shortcomings; it's nice to have something just work and you don't have to think about it or fiddle with it.

Best disc brakes I have used.
I feel Shimano has finally cracked the hydro disc brake nut with these brakes. Fantastic modulation, great power, and NO SQUEAL! I have used Formula (2x), Hayes, Avid (3x), and Shimano disc brakes.

There was no bedding in period and they have incredibly consistent power. Going on the end of my second season without bleeding. Along with Fox forks, SPD pedals, and Chris King hubs, these are a must have on every bike I will ever own.

PROS: Great modulation, Quite, Lightweight, Versatile, Durable

Great Upgrade!!
Great upgrade over the factory hydro brakes on my bike. Lines are extremely long so make sure you have the bleed kit to trim and bleed the lines after install.

No more brake dragging
Replaced troublesome Avid Elixir 1's with these. The Avids would drag on the rotors in hot weather.

Holy BRAKES!!
These brakes replaced the Avid Elixir 5's that came with my bike. As someone who is newer to mountain biking, and a former motocrosser, I thought that hydraulic brakes on bicycles were not great and it was just something I'd have to get used to. I ended up having issues with both the front and rear Elixir 5, so I brought it to my LBS for work. For what it cost to repair the brakes, plus they each needed pads, I decided to upgrade. After asking around, the Shimano Deore XT is what was recommended. That's the point where my world was turned upside down...

I got the brakes and decided I was going to install them myself. It was so easy that I thought I did something wrong! After about 973 nose wheelies in the yard, I decided they were ready for the trail.

Once on the trail, the difference between the XT's and the Elixir 5's was stupid. It was like I didn't previously even have brakes! The feel was perfect, the stopping power was jaw dropping, the women wouldn't stop giving me their number. These brakes should be renamed "Shimano RoXTar".

After reading a few reviews here on Jenson, I was a bit worried about the levers. I read a few reviews about people not liking the shorter levers. I typically only use a max of two fingers on the brakes anyways, so I took the chance. I personally love the feel of the levers. If you used more than three fingers to pull in the lever, you'd probably go over the bars. That isn't a joke, but something I've actually said in seriousness to my buddies.

These brakes were the best upgrade I could've made to my bike. They feel more like the very powerful brakes on my motocross bike than I could've ever expected. I'm hoping I can buy another set to put on my other bike. I used to think the brakes on my other bike were good (Hayes something or other), but these XT's are better than those, too.

PROS: Easy to install, Awesomeness, Quiet, Lightweight, Versatile, Price, Durable

CONS: Didn't Buy Them Sooner

BEST USES: Mountain Biking, Extreme Sports

Amazing brakes
Switched to these from having a pair of Hayes strokers and I couldn't be happier! Braking was a pain before and now it's just great. Xt's are super easy to bleed which was night and day compared to the troublesome task of bleeding strokers! Def worth the money

PROS: Attractive Design, Durable, Easy To Install, Lightweight

Best Upgrade so far
This is the newer "B" model. Works with the newer I-spec "B" shifters which I also purchased. Great, easy to use interface to mount.

Only disagreement is the rear line is 3" shorter than the brakes I removed. Would be nice if the rear was longer, need 1770, and the front is shorter, who needs 1000 mm?

Compared to the Avids I removed, the Magura MT4's on my last bike, Magura Marta SL's, and Hayes (2004 vintage), these brakes are light years beyond those and at a price that is hard to beat. Love the shorty lever to boot, have always hated full size levers when only one finger is doing the braking.

PROS: Very adjustable, Great performance, Easy To Install

CONS: Rear Line Too Short

BEST USES: Xc Freeride Trails, Upgrade, Mountain Biking
