Shimano XT FD-M8000 3X11 FRNT Derailleur

Shimano XT FD-M8000 3x Front Derailleur

Shimano’s FD-M8000 reigns authority over your 3x XT crankset with a bold new design and approach. Designed specifically to tame front shifting on long travel trail bikes, Shimano XT derailleurs provide increased traction to prevent chain rub. Additionally, they offers more tire clearance by 15mm to accommodate the wider tires of Enduro bikes.

A simple, yet dramatic change in the cable routing and pivot mechanism of something as standard as a front derailleur is the kind of innovation that has made Shimano legendary. With Side Swing technology, they've taken something that is totally commonplace in the bike industry and made a “why-didn’t-I think-of-that” improvement in cable routing to reduce the amount of shifting effort needed to actuate the shifting. Designed for larger wheels and longer travel, XT M8000 brings Shimano’s industry-leading front-end shifting to a previously unknown level.

Features

  • Super light shift action
  • New structure with multiple mount options and new cable routing
  • Increased tire clearance of 15mm allows for use on bikes with shorter chainstays
  • Designed with long travel trail bikes in mind
  • 3x mounting options: High clamp, Low clamp, D-type, E-type (without plate)
  • Aluminum construction, stainless steel hardware

It shifts crisply. Easy to setup. Looks good. What more could you want?

Probably great if I had more info before purchase
I bought this to upgrade an older 3x10 setup. The derailleur is nice looking. After mounting it, it was definitely easy to use compared to my old top swing model (M985). What I didn't know was the derailleur can only handle a 40 tooth front ring. My M985 crank is a 42 tooth ring. As I bought the E-Type mount there is not enough adjustability to clear the big ring as it drags on the der. cage. Because I got this on sale, I am going to try and extend the mounting holes down with a drill. I only need 1-2mm more to clear it. So be sure what your 3x tooth count is if you have an E-Type mount (2011 Specialized FSR).

Responisve Shifting but I don't benifit from front derailleurs
Replaced the derailleur when I replaced the shifters and this derailleur works well because of the high, low and clamping adjustability. I still would rather not have a front derailleur but I will leave the 3X setup on my commuter bike.
JensonUSA is the bike shop I frequent most because of the price, selection, shipping offers (usually 2 days with the package arriving before noon), and return policy.

I need a front shimano derailleur 3x11 top pull or duel what model derailleur should I use?
A shopper on Aug 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It depends on your frame and cable routing. I ride a Santa Cruz Blur LT 2 that had a top pull originally and I was able to run the new cabling to easily fit the side mounting of this derailleur. It look like you could possibly do this for a bottom pull as well. If I remember correctly this style was designed to replace either top or bottom pull. If you replace your cables and housing which you should anyway setting this up should be easy. Additionally this thing shifts like a dream with the M8000 shift pods so figuring out a solution is worth the trouble.
I need a front derailleur for a Kona Kula frame that I bought from Jenson. I was thinking about getting a Shimano XT FD-M8000 frnt der. I believe the Kula requires a top pull low der. Can I use the M8000 ?

Thanks,
Mark

BEST ANSWER: Apparently all 4 different mounting options are all Front Pull now, so, you will need to reroute your front derailleur cable down your Down Tube rather than your current Seat Tube set up.
OK, high clamp and low clamp is nice to know, but what does it matter? Really, what I need to know is cable routing! Top Pull or Bottom Pull? and BTW, what about this new Front Pull?? How does that mount? I have a 34.9 seat tube... Help!

Just FYI. I just purchased this for an older 10 SPD setup. While the der. mounted just fine, the teeth on my large chainring are too close to use it. Researching on Shimano's website the der. is meant for large chainrings up to 40 teeth. I have a 42 tooth chainring and the clearance is not enough at full adjustment. This is on a 2011 Stumpjumper FSR.
