Works great, makes the chain slap almost disappear on descents. If you forget to free the clutch for uphills, changing to the biggest sprockets can be a little slower.
I changed my XTR M980 RD with this one, and there was no difference on shifting performance, but it weights a lot more than the XTR RD.

I got the M786 due to the Shadow Plus mechanism. It's very nice but not quite what I expected. I replaced the M780 I had on my Yeti SB66 and it works great but I really can't tell a difference between the two. I still get the same amount of chain noise even after making sure my new chain was the correct length. Still, I am happy with my upgrade and would still recommend it.

Easily one of the best upgrades that can be done. Chain slap is basically gone. Everyone said that the lack of chain slap would make for a better ride but I was blown away by how much the quality of the ride improved after I slapped one of these on. HUGE difference. Worth every penny.
Simply put: a quieter bike is a faster bike.

Shadow Plus it's an awesome technology; almost no chain slap and shifting stays easy, maybe a bit more difficult to shift 2 or more cogs a once.
I coupled this mech with Sram 9 speed X7 shifter as I wanted to have 9 speed cassette: works perfectly!
