I have used Sidi shoes for years...and like most Sidi shoes they last forever..and pretty much look the same year after year..my last pair I am going on six years...the one thing I never liked about the Sidi was the toe box area...kinda of tight..and when you are off the bike they are not that comfortable to walk in..

I bought a pair of the Shimano shoes and right away noticed the width seems to be true to size and are ver comfortable...they also are very nice to walk in off the bike...they also seem to be padded well or a little thicker on the sides than the Sidi shoes..hoping that lessens some of the side impact pain you can get if you strick a rock with the side of your foot with the Sidi shoe.

The price compared to some others is also a great value for what you get..even if they only last a few seasons I would consider that acceptable in mountain biking

Good shoe, comfortable but toe area where black overlaps come up over the tops of your toes separated after a 45 mile ride. There is a part of the toe that is stitched but the black material that folds over the tops of the toe peeled off of the white stitched area. Disappointing but have super glued it back on both shoes (the right shoe taking the biggest damage).

I wouldn't recommend this shoe unless you can get it at a low price. Thought Shimano would be a durable shoe. They won't be bad for training, they just are not a high quality shoe.

Comments about Shimano M162 SPD Shoes:

Cleats fit both my mountain and road bike. Since the shoes are new and breaty, I will use them first mostly with my road bike.

Size was Europe 47, US 11.8. My walking shoes are Europe 45.5, US 12. I would like to see a consistent conversion.

Comments about Shimano M162 SPD Shoes:

Bought this shoe after my Specialized shoes needed replacement. These do not "fit" like Specialized shoes. They are more "generous" in sizing and the quality isn't quite on par. They are slightly heavier than my old Specialized, but the insole was just as high quality if not better on the Shimano's. BUT, they are also NOT $300! I couldn't see spending that kind of money anymore on mountain shoes since they don't seem to last near as long as my roadie shoes. I coach a high school racing team and another team member and I have put A LOT of miles on these and they are still going strong. They aren't for the weight weenies, but you can't beat for it a great durable MTB Shoe!

I use these for everyday riding. The toe box is just right for my feet - not narrow like a lot of euro styled shoes are. Shimano shoes have always fit my feet well. These seem to be a lot more durable than my previous shimano shoes were - those had rubber glue on pieces that began coming off on the very 1st ride I took with them. Thankfully these are much sturdier
