Comments about Shimano 105 ST-5700 Road Shift/Lever Set:

Since I'm notoriously cheap, I hung on to my 8-Speed 105 gear from 14 years ago despite having to tear them apart regularly. I bought a KMC chain and a 11-28 105 cassette. I went carefully with this upgrade, and everything was included in the pack. My recently upgraded detailers, crank, and wheels were all compatible. My older 105 brakes seem uncooperative with these levers, and from what I understand, the new brakes are calibrated to the new levers. My old Modolo bars are too short on the drops with the levers, meaning that I'll end up re-wrapping a new bar sooner than later.

My adjustments were almost spot-on, and a few limit adjustments and I was ready to ride. Almost perfect shifting with the first ride...

Levers intended for a modern upgrade to a classic bike. Mid-80's TREK Ironman getting modern treatment w/105-10 speed. To me, 105 offers best price/performance package for what was only a mid-level frame...but w/Reynolds 431 and beautiful cast lugs...something worth saving.

The shifting Is smooth and quick as expected. The internal routing cleans up the handlebars nicely but the internal routing is quite tedious.

Comments about Shimano 105 ST-5700 Road Shift/Lever Set:

I have found that while attempting to shift, I never know when I have moved the lever far enough to get the next gear. Move it too far and do a double shift, move it to little and don't shift at all or won't seat properly on the next cog.

                    Otherwise a quality made product.

Comments about Shimano 105 ST-5700 Road Shift/Lever Set:

I've used a lot of different shimano groups including 3 different modern (sti) iterations of 105. That being said, the internal cable routing through the base of the hoods was a mistake. I know it looks better, and cleans up the bar area, but it shifts noticeably worse than 5600 did. The brake action is fine if not a little improvide as they did change the levers a bit to grant more leverage from higher on the levers, but that's about it.

The addtional cable routing into the hood base makes for a very wide area for your palm to rest on, which can feel unnatural and uncomfortable at times. This is something I got used to over time, though.

I also had the rear shifter completely stop shifting. 5 minutes with boeshield resolved the shifting issue, I do a lot of gravel riding on this rig, so that is probably the culprit.

All in all, I would not buy these shifters again.

Comments about Shimano 105 ST-5700 Road Shift/Lever Set:

Excellent, slightly uncomforable for people with smaller hands, but if you used Ultegra or Dura Ace, you'll be at home.
