I shopped for a shoe for a while. I've had several brands before, but never owned a Shimano shoe. This is my first pair and I am fairly impressed. For the price that Jenson sells this shoe, it is definitely worth it. I've put plenty of miles on the shoes already and I tend to forget that I have clipless shoes on after I get to my destination and start walking around. This is a good feeling as they are comfortable enough to walk around in the city as well as trails. I also feel that the shoe is well ventilated. Some shoes I've owned have relied heavily on mesh and my feet would get too dry or cold, however these I haven't had a problem with. I'm sure I'll have a better opinion when the winter months come. In any case, this shoe compares to more expensive leather or race shoes. Then again, I err in the side of comfort. They are not as heavy as I was lead to believe in people's reviews. I love them and that's all that matters.

I purchased these shoes to replace an old pair of SIDIs and am dissapointed with their durability. After 5 rides total, chunks of the sole are missing and there are several deep gouges that will likely lead to more missing chunks. The shoes are very comfortable but the sole is too soft for rocky environments. These would be ideal for commuting or smooth terrain trails. I would not recommend these to a friend.

Comments about Shimano SH-M162 SPD Shoes:

These shoes seem to be a big improvement over my last pair of Shimano MTB shoes (the MO88). The biggest difference is the sole - which is much stiffer - and the insole - which offers much more support. So far, really enjoying these shoes.

Best bang for the buck, only 5 rides but can't complain. A little heavy, but love the power transfer being clipped in. A friend has a pair and complained the tongue will start ripping, but after 2 years of riding abuse I told it time to get a new pair.

Comments about Shimano SH-M162 SPD Shoes:

I was looking for the newer SH-M163s, but these look similar with very similar specs, and were a lot less expensive so I took the plunge and wasn't disappointed.

I use these for commuting, and they are easier to put on than my older Shimano shoes with laces (that broke after several years). The build quality is great, ratcheting buckle makes it easy to get a snug fit, and it has a nice, stiff sole.

The only complaint I have is that I have wide feet, and the while the shoe is true to size - I normally wear size 12 and got these in a 47 or ~11.8 and there is sufficient room in the toes - the width feels a little tight. Not uncomfortably so, but the upper two velcro straps are only very loosely fastened and it still feels snug. It did feel slightly better after several rides so hopefully it'll get better with time.

Comments about Shimano SH-M162 SPD Shoes:

I have only worn these shoes around the house to make sure they fit properly. They are an upgrade from a previous Shimano Shoe (M88) that I purchased a couple of years ago. The shoe/fit seems identical to my previous shoe with the added benefit of a stiffer footbed and adjustable buckle (compared to velcro). At 50% of retail price, it is a great deal for a shoe that will be comfortable to wear every day and on long touring trips. I have learned that it's important to have extra room when on long rides/tours since my foot will expand with heat (and these shoes accommodate for this issue and remain comfortable or not to tight).

I hope they perform like my previous shoe.

Comments about Shimano SH-M162 SPD Shoes:

Very comfortable - great for all day rides. Noticeably heavier than my previous Shimano XC61's but that was expected. the XC61's are more for racing/XC and get torn up on the trails/rocks. Also note that the Shimano 'M' series shoes fit much better (for me) as the toe box is more rounded, leaving room for my toes. The XC61 are more pointed, and cramp my toes.

Good shoe, and absolutely a great deal at the Jenson price.
